Dragon Gates Overview

Dragon Gates is a Chinese-themed slot from Onlyplay, released on 4 July 2024. It runs on 5 reels and 3 rows with 20 fixed lines, and it adds a separate multiplier reel set, respins triggered by wilds, a scatter and five fixed jackpots. Temples, Lanterns and Gold

The reels sit inside a red lacquered frame with a golden dragon on the left and a pagoda on the right. The symbols are a koi fish, a golden frog on a pile of coins, a jade scroll, a blue perfume bottle, a money bag overflowing with gold, and a red lantern. The wild is a golden dragon with the word WILD beneath it, and the scatter is a bowl heaped with gold ingots.

Above the reels, the logo sits between the five jackpot plaques, and a narrow strip of three extra reels runs just below it. The bottom bar holds the balance, the last win and the bet, and a large spin button with a MAX BET shortcut sits on the right.

The Paytable

Payouts are printed as multiples of the bet. The koi and the frog share the top line: 8x for five, 3x for four and 1x for three. The scroll and the bottle pay 5x, 2x and 0.5x, and the money bag and the lantern pay 3x, 1x and 0.5x.

With 20 lines, the real money comes from stacks. One of our spins had three columns of money bags on the left and paid 350 USD, and a similar spin with scrolls stacked across the first three reels also paid 350 USD – 7x the bet from symbols that pay only 0.5x for a single line of three.

In cash terms at 50 USD, five koi or five frogs on a line pay 400 USD, five scrolls or bottles 250 USD and five money bags or lanterns 150 USD. Three of a kind pays 50 USD for the top pair and 25 USD for the rest.

The 20 lines are shown on the info screens: the three rows, two V shapes, two zigzags and a set of lines that step between the top and bottom rows. Wins pay from left to right, starting on the first reel.

Each Wild Triggers a Respin

The splash screen explains the wild in one line: “Each wild triggers respin”. The dragon substitutes for the paying symbols, and every time one lands the game spins again, so a lucky wild can turn one spin into a short chain of spins.

The splash screen illustrates it with three wilds across the middle of the grid, each one adding its own respin. It is a simple rule, but on a 20-line game it matters: every extra spin is another chance to connect the stacked symbols.

The Multiplier Reels

Above the main grid sits a strip of three small reels that plays on separate reels from the rest of the game. They carry gold ingots, and the combination on them sets the multiplier for the spin:

• one ingot on each reel: x3
• two ingots on each reel: x6
• three ingots on each reel: x9

A dragon coin on this strip gives a jackpot game chance instead. Our screenshots show the multiplier at work twice: a lantern win of 100 USD became 300 USD with x3, and a money-bag win of 225 USD became 675 USD.

The multiplier applies to the whole line win of the spin. In most of our captures the strip showed x1, and the two wins above were the spins where it moved to x3. The x9 at the top of the table needs three ingots on each of the three strip reels.

The strip also explains why the game can reach its maximum without a huge paytable: a top line of 400 USD multiplied by nine is already 3,600 USD before any jackpot is involved.

Five Fixed Jackpots

Five jackpot plaques frame the logo. At 50 USD they read GRAND 500,000, MEGA 50,000, MAJOR 5,000, MINOR 1,000 and MINI 250 – that is 10,000x, 1,000x, 100x, 20x and 5x the stake.

The GRAND is exactly the published 10,000x maximum, so the top jackpot is also the ceiling of the game.

Scatters and Free Spins

The scatter is a bowl of gold marked SCATTER, and we captured a spin with three of them on reels 1, 3 and 4. SlotCatalog lists free spins and a symbol collection mechanic among the features. The screenshots do not show the free spins round itself, so we cannot describe how many spins it gives.

The scatters landed on the main grid among ordinary symbols, and they were the only symbols on that spin that were not dimmed, which suggests the game checks them separately from the lines.

What the Session Did

Most of our wins came from stacked low symbols: 100 USD from blue bottles, two 350 USD stacks, and the two multiplied wins of 300 and 675 USD. The balance moved between roughly 6,400 and 10,150 USD over the captures, which fits a medium-volatility game where the multiplier strip does much of the work.

The pattern was consistent: the higher-paying koi and frog showed up often but rarely in lines of three or more, while the money bags, scrolls and lanterns stacked across whole reels and produced the bigger results. A spin with a full column of one low symbol is worth watching, because the next two reels decide how many of the 20 lines it connects.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

A 95.5% return is a little below the industry average. The paytable is modest – the best symbol pays 8x for five on a line – so results depend on stacked symbols, the x3 to x9 multiplier strip and the jackpot chance on the dragon coin.
