Grandma Fortune Overview

Grandma Fortune is a cluster-pays slot from Caleta Gaming, released on 10 July 2024. It plays on a 7x7 grid of gems and coins, and wins come from groups of matching symbols rather than from paylines. According to SlotCatalog the game combines avalanche (cascading) wins, free spins, 3x3 mega symbols, multipliers, scatters and wilds, with bets from €0.10 to €100.

Caleta does not publish an RTP, a volatility rating or a maximum win for the game, and SlotCatalog lists all three as N/A, so our data box leaves those fields open. The numbers below come from our own demo session, played at bets of FUN 10 and later FUN 7.

A Kitchen Full of Lucky Charms

The grid sits in a red Chinese frame hung with a paper lantern, in a cosy room lined with shelves, vases, scrolls and a folding fan. Grandma herself stands to the left of the reels in her red jacket and white bun, eyes closed and smiling, with a teapot beside her. The whole scene is warm, bright and friendly rather than mystical.

The symbols are six kinds of jewels and coins: a gold coin, a red flower-shaped gem, a round blue gem, a purple diamond, a green square gem and an orange triangle. The FREE SPINS tiles are the scatters.

How Cluster Pays Works Here

A win needs a group of at least five identical symbols touching each other horizontally or vertically. The paytable pays by cluster size and climbs in steps: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 22 and finally 32 or more. After a win the symbols clear and new ones drop in from above, so a single spin can produce a chain of wins.

Our captures show exactly that. One spin showed a 4.00 cluster while the tally above the grid read 1.66, another a 5.00 cluster with the tally at 4.97, and a third a single 10.00 cascade – all on a FUN 10 bet.

The Paytable

The game’s rules page lists the payouts as multipliers. The gold coin is the top symbol: 15x for five, 50x for twelve, 500x for 22 and 5,000x for a cluster of 32 or more. The red gem tops out at 4,000x, the blue gem at 1,600x, the purple diamond at 1,400x, the green gem at 1,200x and the orange triangle at 1,000x.

The rules page does not say what the multipliers are applied to, and the small cash wins in our session suggest that they are not multiples of the full bet. We therefore quote them as the game prints them and do not convert them into bet multiples.

Free Spins Scatters

The FREE SPINS tiles can land anywhere on the 7x7 grid. In one of our spins four of them landed on a cleared board at once – two in the top row, one in the middle and one near the bottom – which is how the free spins round starts.

In the free spins the lantern on the left turns into a multiplier display and the lantern on the right counts the spins left. We caught the round with 4 free spins remaining and the multiplier lantern at x3. At that moment the total win stood at FUN 22.40 on a FUN 7 bet, with a fresh cascade of 8.60 on the tally above the grid.

Buying the Feature

A BUY FEATURE sign hangs to the right of the grid. It opens a scroll that shows the bet and the price of the free spins. At a bet of FUN 7.00 the feature cost FUN 582.40, which is 83.2x the bet.

That is a mid-range price for a bought bonus. Since the game does not publish a maximum win, it is worth keeping the cost in mind: one purchase costs as much as more than eighty regular spins.

Mega Symbols and Multipliers

SlotCatalog lists 3x3 mega symbols and multipliers among the features. A 3x3 block counts as nine matching positions, so on a cluster-pays grid it can turn a small group into a large one in one go.

Our screenshots show the multiplier in the free spins lantern, but we did not catch a 3x3 mega symbol on the grid, so we cannot say how often it appears or how it interacts with the cascades.

What We Saw in Play

The base game paid in small, steady steps. The clusters we caught were worth between 4.00 and 10.00 on a FUN 10 bet, and the balance moved between roughly FUN 990 and FUN 650 during the base-game part of our session.

The free spins changed the pace. With the x3 lantern active, the round had already collected FUN 22.40 on a FUN 7 bet with four spins still to go, more than three times the stake before the end of the feature.

Who Should Play It

Grandma Fortune suits players who like cluster-pays grids and cascades more than classic paylines. The big 7x7 board keeps plenty happening on screen, and the free spins multiplier gives the feature a clear goal.

Players who want published RTP or volatility figures will not find them for this title, so the demo above is the best way to judge the rhythm of the game before playing for real money.
