Sticky Bandits Thunder Rail Overview

Sticky Bandits Thunder Rail is a Wild West train-heist slot from Quickspin, released on 19 May 2025. It is another chapter of the long-running Sticky Bandits series, and like its predecessors it is built around sticky wilds that hold their place through respins. The base game runs on a 5x4 grid with 26 paylines, but special wilds can stretch it up to 7 rows and 7 columns, and the Bonus Game is always played on a full 7x7 grid.

The RTP is 96.07%, the volatility is high and the maximum win is 10,000x the bet. An Extra Bet and a three-level Buy Feature give players several ways to shape the session.

Theme and Graphics

The game is set in a red-rock desert canyon, with a steam train rolling along the tracks behind the reels. The grid looks like the side of a dark rail car, riveted and framed in iron, under a WINS counter and the Sticky Bandits logo. Gunshots flash across the screen when the features fire, and the whole presentation has the noise and speed of a moving train.

The symbols tell the story of the robbery: lucky horseshoes, crates of gold bars, steer skulls, crossed pickaxes, sheriff stars and whisky bottles. The bandits themselves appear as the WILD symbols – weathered outlaws with hats and moustaches – and a locomotive marks the BONUS symbol.

The Wild Features

The base game is all about wilds, and Thunder Rail has seven different types. Each one changes the grid in its own way:

  • Diagonal Wild – picks one of its two diagonals at random and fills every non-wild spot on it with wilds.
  • Big Wild – expands into a 2x2 block in a random direction.
  • Random Wild – places 2 to 4 extra wilds at random on the grid.
  • Multiplier Wild – takes a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x or 100x for the rest of the round.
  • Cash Wild – carries a cash value of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 20x or 100x the bet, paid on top of any line win it is part of.
  • Row Expansion Wild – adds a row to the grid, up to 7, which opens more paylines.
  • Column Expansion Wild – adds a column, up to 7, which allows longer winning lines.

Multipliers are added together when several of them touch the same line, and a Cash Wild can pay again in each respin in which it is part of a win. The base game has its own cap: a total of 1,000x the bet ends the round immediately.

The Bonus Game

Three or more Bonus symbols in the base game start the Bonus Game on a 7x7 grid. It works with lives rather than spins: you start with 3 lives, each spin costs one, and every new symbol that lands sticks in place and restores the lives to 3.

The heart of the round is the player area – the part of the grid the bandit can walk on. Symbols that connect to it horizontally or vertically become part of it, and when the round ends, the values of all symbols inside the player area are added up and multiplied by the base bet.

How the Round Starts

The number of Bonus symbols decides the opening position. With 3 symbols only the centre square is in the player area; with 4, the squares to its left and right join; with 5, the squares above and below as well. Those first symbols start at 1x, 3x or 5x, depending on the trigger. Each corner also holds a strong symbol: a 50x Booster top left, a 100x Grabber top right, a 100x Doubler bottom left and a 150x Re-Activator bottom right – but they only count once the player area reaches them.

Grabber, Doubler, Booster and Re-Activator

Every collectable symbol carries one of four features, which fire in a straight line from the symbol to the edge of the player area. The Grabber copies the values of the affected symbols onto itself, the Doubler doubles them, the Booster adds its own value to each of them, and the Re-Activator refreshes them so their features can fire again. The order is always Grabber, Doubler, Booster and then Re-Activator, which makes long chains possible.

The Shootout

Guards can land too. When one appears, the bandit spends his ammunition to take him out, and if guards land in 3 consecutive spins, he runs out of bullets and the Bonus Game is over. The guards have no value of their own; they are there to add tension to every spin.

Maximum Win

The total win of the base game and the Bonus Game together is capped at 10,000x the bet. When that figure is reached, the round ends immediately and the full amount is paid. With Extra Bet active, the cap is still calculated on the base bet.

Extra Bet and Buy Feature

The Extra Bet costs 2x and adds the Mystery Wilds feature to the base game; wins are still calculated on the base bet. It works in the base game only and cannot be combined with the Buy Feature. The Buy Feature has three options:

  • 5x the bet – a guaranteed base-game wild feature spin (RTP 96.54%)
  • 60x the bet – the Bonus Game with at least 3 Bonus symbols (RTP 96.78%)
  • 155x the bet – the Bonus Game with 5 Bonus symbols (RTP 96.87%)

Not every level is offered in every market.

What We Saw on the Reels

We played the demo at a €10.00 total bet. One capture shows the typical base-game picture: two bandit wilds side by side in the middle of the grid, a locomotive Bonus symbol on the second reel, crates of gold and sheriff stars around them, and a muzzle flash lighting up the bottom of the screen as a wild feature fires. The Extra Bet button on the left showed its €5 extra cost for the session.

Even small spins look busy here, because a single wild can turn into a diagonal, a 2x2 block or a new row in a moment.

Who Should Play It

Sticky Bandits Thunder Rail is for players who enjoy busy, feature-heavy slots. Seven wild types keep the base game unpredictable, and the Bonus Game adds a layer of strategy-like chain reactions on a big 7x7 board. It is high volatility and the rules take a few rounds to learn, so the free demo is the best place to start before playing for real money.
