Guardian of Flame

Guardian of Flame Overview

Guardian of Flame is an oriental video slot from SimplePlay, released on 3 February 2022. It revives an ancient Chinese legend: a white guardian lion stands on the left of the reels and a fiery red demon on the right, set against misty ink-painted mountains. The game plays on a classic 5x3 grid with 30 paylines, and its bonus system is built around two crystal meters – a green one and a red one – that lead to two different free games.

SlotCatalog lists a 96.19% RTP and medium variance. The features include free spins, a free spins multiplier, additional wilds, stacked symbols, scatter symbols and a symbol collection. No official maximum win has been published for the game.

Rules and Betting

The game is always played with 30 lines. All symbols pay left to right on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel, except the scatter; only the highest win on each active line is paid, and wins occur only on the selected lines. All wins are multiplied by the line bet and the coin, except the scatter.

The bottom bar has Coin, Lines and Line Bet selectors. With a coin of 0.01 and a line bet of 10, as in our screenshots, the total bet is 3.00. The Total Bet and Win readouts, a Max Bet button, the spin button and Auto Play complete the panel.

Paytable

Three premium symbols share the top of the table: the guardian lion, the red demon mask and the red tasselled ornament, each paying 100 for five, 50 for four and 10 for three. The folding fan, the painted drum and the jade disc pay 75, 30 and 10.

The card ranks are split into two groups. A, K and Q pay 50, 20 and 5; J, 10 and 9 pay 30, 10 and 5. The values in the paytable are multiplied by the line bet and the coin.

Wild Symbol

The golden bell with a green jade centre acts as the wild. It substitutes for the regular symbols on the lines and also lands among them in the base game – in one of our spins a bell on the first reel linked up with the ornaments for a line win. SlotCatalog also lists stacked symbols among the features, and the lion and the demon regularly land in stacks of two or three on a reel.

Green and Red Crystal Meters

The heart of the game is the pair of meters on either side of the logo. The green crystal meter on the left and the red crystal meter on the right both count up to 60. Symbols marked with a green or red crystal feed them, and every time a crystal appears, the lion or the demon strikes the reels and shakes them. In our screenshots the meters stood at values such as 31/60 and 20/60, then 59/60 and 48/60, so both fill steadily during the base game.

According to SlotCatalog, collecting crystals of either colour triggers one of the free games, and the colour decides which one you get.

Free Spins with Extra Wilds

In one of our free games the green meter had been emptied to 0/60 and the status bar announced: “Extra 20 Wild Symbols are added to the reels”. In that screenshot the whole grid is covered in golden bell wilds. The flames on both sides of the reels mark that the feature is running.

Free Spins with a Multiplier

The other free game carries a multiplier. In our screenshot the red meter was reset to 0/60, a multiplier panel showed x12, and the status bar read “Extra X2 Multiplier is added” – so the multiplier grows during the round. On that spin the win display showed 24.00 on a 3.00 bet. The free spins counter read 7 at that point.

Jackpot Display

A panel in the top right corner shows three jackpot tiers – Major, Minor and Mini – with running values. The amounts change all the time, so check the panel in the game for the current figures.

Graphics and Sound

The design is one of SimplePlay’s more atmospheric: the reels sit in a red lacquered frame with a jade green top bar, and the grey-green mountains behind them look like a traditional Chinese painting. The lion and the demon are animated, and their strikes on the reels make the crystal hits easy to notice. Win amounts are shown in large gold numbers over the reels.

Is Guardian of Flame Worth Playing?

Guardian of Flame is a good choice if you like games with visible progress. The two meters give every spin a small purpose, and the two free games feel genuinely different – one floods the reels with wilds, the other builds a multiplier. With medium variance and a 96.19% RTP, it is a balanced option for longer sessions.

The free demo at the top of the page runs on SimplePlay’s own server, so you can watch the meters fill and try both bonus rounds without registration.
