Mother of Dragons Overview

Mother of Dragons is a fantasy video slot from SimplePlay, released on 29 July 2021. Its theme is openly borrowed from the world of Game of Thrones: three dragons, a silver-haired queen, dragon eggs and royal jewellery fill the reels, while a huge green dragon coils around a tree on the right of the screen. The game plays on five reels with a ways-to-win system instead of fixed paylines, and its signature twist is that the reel layout itself can change between spins.

SlotCatalog lists a 96.04% RTP and medium-high variance. Features include a wild, scatter symbols, free spins with additional spins, and random wilds. No official maximum win figure has been published for this title.

Three Scenes, Three Reel Layouts

The rules screen explains that the game consists of three different scenes, and the active scene is switched at random. Each scene has its own reel orientation and number of ways, but all three share the same reel strips:

• Scene 1 – 576 ways for all symbols
• Scene 2 – 432 ways for all symbols
• Scene 3 – 324 ways for all symbols, on a 3-3-4-3-3 grid

Scene Switching can trigger in any game round. When it does, the switch happens after the current round is completed and the win has been evaluated and paid, and the status bar announces it – one of our screenshots shows “Scene Switching: Scene 2”. It is not triggered during free spins. If Scene Switching and the free game land on the same spin, the switch waits until the free spins and their payout are finished.

How Wins Are Formed

All symbols pay left to right on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel, except the scatter, which pays in any position. Each symbol can be used only once per winning combination, only the highest win on each symbol combination is paid, and coinciding wins are added together.

Every game is played for 50 times the selected coin times the selected bet. With a coin of 0.01 and a bet of 10, as in our screenshots, the total bet is 5.00. SlotCatalog lists a minimum bet of 10 and a maximum of 1,000.

Paytable

The three dragons – gold, red and blue – are the top symbols, each paying 300 for five, 100 for four and 50 for three. The royal jewellery follows: the crown, the necklace and the ring each pay 200, 60 and 30.

The card ranks cover the lower end. A and K pay 150, 50 and 15; Q and J pay 120, 40 and 10; 10 and 9 pay 100, 40 and 5. All of these values are multiplied by the coin and the bet, except the scatter.

Wild Symbol

The Mother of Dragons herself is the wild. She substitutes for the regular symbols to complete ways wins, and in our session she landed stacked across neighbouring reels: in one spin she covered positions on reels two and three and linked two blue dragons into a 32.00 win on a 5.00 bet. SlotCatalog also lists random or additional wilds among the features.

Dragon Egg Scatter and Free Spins

The glowing dragon egg is the scatter. Three eggs anywhere on the reels triggered the “Scatter game” in our screenshots, and scatter wins pay regardless of position. According to SlotCatalog, the scatter awards 8, 15 or 20 free spins, and extra free spins can be won during the feature. The layout stays fixed while the free spins run, because Scene Switching is paused until the round is over.

Jackpot Display

A panel in the top right corner shows three jackpot tiers – Major, Minor and Mini – with running values. The amounts change constantly, so check the panel in the game itself for the current figures.

Graphics and Sound

The reels sit in a stone frame over a misty fantasy landscape with a castle in the background, and the enormous green dragon on the right moves while you play. The ways counter is shown on both sides of the reels. The controls follow SimplePlay’s standard bottom bar: Coin, Ways and Bet selectors, the Total Bet and Win readouts, a Max Bet button, the spin button and Auto Play.

The symbols are detailed and easy to tell apart. The dragons have large, colourful portraits, and the crown, necklace and ring are set with purple and green gems. The card ranks are carved in red, gold, blue and green. When a win lands, the amount appears in large gold numbers over the reels, while the status bar below shows the total, such as “Game pays 6.00”. In our screenshots, the base-game wins ranged from 3.00 to 32.00 on a 5.00 bet.
