The Wild Protectors

The Wild Protectors Overview

The Wild Protectors is a Chinese-legend slot from Eurasian Gaming, released on 1 December 2020. It is based on Journey to the West: the monk Tang Sanzang travels with his three protectors – the Monkey King, Zhu Bajie the pig and Sha Wujing – across a 5x3 grid with 25 paylines. SlotCatalog lists a 97% RTP (the game comes in several RTP versions), high volatility and a maximum win of 1,250x. Bets run from 0.25 to 75. The game has no embeddable free demo, because the provider does not allow its game page to be shown inside other websites.

The Symbols

The low-paying symbols are the card values 10 to A set on round bronze medallions. The higher symbols are Chinese treasures – coins on a red string, a gourd and a scroll – and the four travellers. The Monkey King is the main wild, a golden figure with a red headband and the word WILD beneath him. The golden temple gate is the scatter.

The Story

Journey to the West is one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. It follows the monk Tang Sanzang on his pilgrimage to India, guarded by three disciples: the rebellious Monkey King Sun Wukong, the greedy but good-natured Zhu Bajie, and the quiet Sha Wujing. The game’s title fits the novel well – the three disciples are exactly that, the monk’s protectors – and each of them can become a wild during the bonus.

Three Jackpots

Above the reels three plaques show the jackpots. At our bet of 0.80 per line – 20.00 USD in total – they read:

• Grand: 25,000 USD – 1,250x the bet
• Major: 4,000 USD – 200x
• Minor: 1,000 USD – 50x

The Grand is exactly the published 1,250x maximum, so in this game the top jackpot is the ceiling itself.

Choose Your Free Spins

Three temple-gate scatters start the bonus. In our session they paid 40 USD – 2x the bet – on the spin itself, and the game announced “Congratulation! You have won 20 Freespins”. Before the round starts you choose between three options:

• 20 free spins – one protector becomes wild on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5
• 10 free spins – two protectors become wild on reels 2–5
• 5 free spins – three protectors become wild on reels 2–5

It is a classic trade-off: more spins with fewer extra wilds, or fewer spins in which almost every character becomes a wild. During free spins a banner above the reels confirms the choice, for example “[protector] is wild on reels 2 to 5”.

Which Option to Pick?

The three free spin choices are built to be roughly equal in value, but they feel very different. With 20 spins and one extra wild character, the round is long and steady, and a single strong spin can come at any point. With 5 spins and three extra wild characters, most of the reels 2–5 fill with wilds and almost every spin pays, but the round is over quickly and there is little room for recovery if the first spins are quiet. The 10-spin option sits in between. Players who prefer a smooth ride will lean towards 20 spins; those chasing the biggest single hits will prefer the five-spin, three-wild version.

The Big Win

The largest win in our screenshots came from stacked monks on the first reels and a full Monkey King wild reel on the right: 2,496.00 USD – about 125x the bet. That spin shows how the stacked characters and the tall wilds combine across all 25 lines.

Power Play: Buy Bonus and Fast-Play

Like other Eurasian Gaming titles, the game has a Power Play menu with two options:

• Buy-Bonus Feature: “the next game round will cost 700.00 USD and you will be granted access to bonus feature” – at a 20.00 USD bet that is 35x.
• Fast-Play Feature: plays a chosen number of rounds automatically and shows only the result, stopping if a bonus is triggered.

We set Fast-Play to 100 rounds. The run stopped early, and the summary read “You won 373.60 USD – 37 game rounds played – total amount bet 740.00 USD” – so the bonus interrupted it after 37 spins, as the rules describe, with about half the stake returned before the feature.

Graphics and Setting

The reels stand inside a red Chinese gate with green-tiled roofs and two tall lantern pillars, one showing the line count and the other a spin counter. The background changes from a misty waterfall valley on the start screens to a golden plain during play. The four protectors are painted in rich detail, from the Monkey King’s golden armour to the monk’s red and gold robes.

Who It Is For

The Wild Protectors is for players who like a story-driven slot with a clear bonus decision. The free spin choice lets you tune the round to your taste, the jackpots are fixed multiples of the bet, and the 1,250x ceiling is modest but reachable through the Grand. All six casinos we checked carry the game.
