Haunted Reels Overview

Haunted Reels is a Halloween slot from BGaming with 3,125 ways to win, an RTP of 97%, a medium-high volatility rating and a maximum win of 5,000x the bet. It was released on 15 October 2024.

A 97% return is well above the industry norm, and it is the first number worth noting. The second is the way the free spins work: the round is built around one chosen skull symbol and a row of multipliers you have to collect before they switch on.

All figures below were read from demo play at a 10.00 bet, in the demo’s FUN currency.

A Cartoon Graveyard

The reels stand between two iron lampposts in a moonlit graveyard, with a haunted house glowing on the right and pine trees fading into blue mist on the left. The art is soft and friendly rather than frightening – this is Halloween for children’s picture books, not horror films.

A relaxed skeleton lounges against a gravestone in the bottom-right corner, and jack-o’-lanterns sit at both ends of the frame. On the left, a small gravestone doubles as the Buy Bonus button and switches to Bonus Active during the feature.

The symbols are three glowing skulls in purple, red and green, a blue bat, a purple spider, and a set of sweets: a potion bottle, candy corn, gummy bears and two jelly sweets in red and blue.

The game’s interface is typical of BGaming: balance and total bet in the bottom-left corner, the total win in the centre, and the spin and autoplay buttons on the right. The bet arrows sit beside the total bet, and our session ran from a balance of 931.50 at the start.

A row of five empty slots runs along the bottom of the grid in the base game. It stays empty until the free spins, where it becomes the multiplier collection bar – one of the few places in the design where a base-game element hints at the bonus.

The Paytable

Haunted Reels pays across a 5x5 grid on up to 3,125 ways, and the paytable is flat by modern standards. At a 10.00 bet, the values for three, four and five of a kind are:

Purple skull 10 / 20 / 30, red skull 7.50 / 12.50 / 15, green skull 5 / 10 / 12.50. The spider pays 3 / 6 / 7.50 and the bat 3 / 5 / 6. The potion and candy corn share 1.50 / 2.50 / 3, the gummy bears 1.50 / 2 / 2.50, and the two jelly sweets pay only for four and five, at 1.50 and 2.

So even five purple skulls on a single way are only 3x the bet. The game relies instead on stacking many ways at once, which is exactly what our screenshots show.

Ways in Action

The win box shows both the amount and the number of ways that made it, which makes the maths easy to follow. Three green skulls on 6 ways paid 30.00 – 6 × 5.00. Red jelly sweets across all five reels on 36 ways paid 72.00 – 36 × 2.00, a 7.2x result from the game’s cheapest symbol.

A smaller win of 10.00 on 2 ways came from four bats (2 × 5.00). The pattern is consistent: the number of ways matters far more than which symbol lands.

The flip side is that big hits need a crowded board. Three or four matching symbols spread across several rows multiply the ways quickly: two symbols on each of three reels already make eight ways, and three on each make twenty-seven.

Bonus Buy: Three Coloured Graves

The Buy Bonus menu offers three versions of the feature, each on its own coloured gravestone:

The Green bonus costs 500.00 (50x), and in it all symbols can be hit by multipliers. The Red bonus costs 1,000.00 (100x) and lets only the high symbols – the three skulls – be shot by multipliers. The Purple bonus costs 3,000.00 (300x) and gives the high symbols a double shot by multipliers.

The progression is clear: each step up removes the low symbols from the multiplier target and, at the top, doubles the effect.

The Free Spins

Three Bonus pumpkin scatters trigger the round in the base game. We bought the Green version: the game awarded 5 free spins with the red skull as the chosen symbol, and the intro screen explained the key rule – collect 5 multipliers to activate them.

During the round, the grid fills with grey coffins that open to reveal the chosen skull, and multiplier tiles such as 2x and 3x land on the reels. Collected multipliers fill a five-slot bar under the grid. +1 tiles add extra spins, and the counter moved to 7/9 as our round went on.

The payoff showed at the end: red skulls across 40 ways paid 500.00 in a single spin – 40 × 12.50, or 50x the bet, exactly the price of the Green buy returned in one hit.

It is worth noting how the round played out on the balance. The Green buy took the balance from 956.50 down to 426.50, and the 500.00 red-skull hit alone lifted it back to 926.50 – so this particular round roughly returned its cost before the remaining spins were counted.

The free spins also show why the red skull matters. At 12.50 for four of a kind it is the second-best symbol in the game, and with the coffins filling in around it, forty ways were enough to turn a modest single-way value into a 50x result.

The multiplier bar did not fill completely in our capture: 3x and 2x sat in the first two slots, with three still empty. Only once all five are collected do the multipliers start acting on the chosen symbol, which is where the 5,000x maximum comes within reach.

Who Should Play It

Haunted Reels suits players who like a ways slot with a clear, readable structure. The 97% RTP is a genuine selling point, and the win box that shows the ways count makes it easy to see where every payout comes from.

The reservations are the flat paytable – nothing pays more than 3x on a single way – and the fact that the free spins multipliers need five collections before they switch on. The Purple buy at 300x is a serious commitment in a medium-high game.
