Totem de Oro Overview

Totem de Oro is an Aztec-themed slot from Gamebeat, released on 25 January 2024. It plays on a 5x3 grid with 25 paylines, set inside a carved jungle temple with torches on both sides. The published figures are a 96.07% RTP, medium-high volatility and a maximum win of 5,000x the bet. Stakes run from 0.25 to 50.

The Symbols

The premium symbols are portraits: a warrior in a feathered jade headdress, a priestess with a golden crown, an elder with a painted skull mask, a young woman in green, and a puma. The lower symbols are the royals A, K, Q and J, cut into grey stone. Three further symbols do the special work: the golden totem wild, the coin with a cash value on it, and the stepped pyramid marked “Bonus”.

The Totem Wild Collects Coins

The heart of the game is the totem. When it lands, the wild grows into a full golden column with a “W” on top and a small display in the middle, and it collects the values of the coins visible on the screen. SlotCatalog lists this as a cash collector with expanding wilds, and our screenshots show it working:

  • In the base game a totem on the middle reel took the value of a single 100 coin, and the spin paid 280 in total at a 50 bet – 5.6x.
  • In the free spins two totems each showed 400 – exactly the 150 plus 250 coins on the grid – so every totem collects the full coin total, not a share of it.

As a wild the totem also completes lines. A stacked column of three W symbols on the second reel turned a row of ordinary symbols into a 100 win (2x).

What the Base Game Looks Like

Outside the bonus, the totem does not need to be part of a big spin to be useful. On the 280 spin, the only coin on the screen was a 100 on the fifth reel; the totem on the middle reel took that 100, and the portraits around it added line wins. On the 100 spin there were no coins at all – the second reel simply filled with three stacked W symbols, and the wild column completed lines with the royals around it.

Line Wins

The portraits carry the base game. One of our spins lined up the jade-headdress warrior across the grid, and the game highlighted line 18 for a win of 600 – 12x the bet. With 25 lines on a 5x3 grid, most spins pay something small, while the portraits and the totems provide the bigger moments.

Free Spins

Three pyramids marked “Bonus” start the free spins. In our game they landed on the first, third and fifth reels, together with a 250 coin, and the screen announced “Congratulations, you have won 6 free spins”.

During the round the counter on the right counts down the remaining spins and a Total Win panel on the left keeps the running score. Our round went like this:

  • With 4 spins left: two totems on the first and fourth reels, a 120 win.
  • With 2 spins left and 1,350 already collected: two totems side by side on the first two reels, each holding 400, and a win of 1,710 – labelled 34.2x bet.

That single spin was worth more than everything before it, which is typical of the collector mechanic: a totem pays most when it arrives on a spin full of coins.

Reading the Big Spin

The 1,710 spin is worth a closer look, because the screenshots show both halves of it. Before the win was added up, the two totems stood on the first and second reels, each displaying 400, while the coins that fed them – a 150 on the middle row of the fourth reel and a 250 on its bottom row – were still visible. The rest of the grid held portraits and royals: the jade warrior, the elder, two priestesses, a Q and an A. With two full wild columns on the left, those symbols also formed line wins from the first reel, which is why the spin paid well above the two 400 collections alone.

It also shows why coin values matter so much. Every coin on the screen is counted once for each totem, so two totems double the value of the same coins, and three would triple it.

Bonus Buy

SlotCatalog lists a buy feature, and the base-game interface shows a shopping-cart button next to the spin controls. Our screenshots do not show the price, so we cannot quote it here; check the buy menu in the demo before playing.

Graphics and Setting

The reels sit between carved stone pillars, with torches burning on both sides and piles of gold coins at the bottom of the screen. Behind the temple, a green jungle with hanging vines fills the background. The logo, “Totem de Oro”, hangs on a golden medallion on the left. The totem wilds are the most detailed pieces of art in the game: tall, carved golden columns with glowing eyes.

The Numbers in Context

At the maximum stake of 50, the 5,000x ceiling means a potential 250,000 win. The 34.2x free-spin hit we saw is a solid result, but far from the top, and the medium-high volatility rating fits what the screenshots show: frequent small line wins, with the totem collections providing the jumps.

Who It Is For

Totem de Oro suits players who like cash-collector slots with a simple structure: 25 lines, one collecting wild and a short free-spins round. The totem makes every coin on the screen interesting, and a bonus with two or three totems at the right moment can turn into a big win quickly.
