A Cartoon Tomb

The reels sit inside a golden temple hall with torches and columns, and the style is light-hearted rather than dark. The characters are drawn as cartoons: a young pharaoh with a striped nemes headdress, a blue Horus mask, a black Anubis, a purple Bastet cat and a golden sphinx. The low symbols are hieroglyph tablets and carved A, K and Q letters.

Ways, Reels and the Stake

In the base game each of the six reels shows three symbols, so the ways count is 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 729. At 1.00 per way the young pharaoh pays 50 for six, 30 for five, 20 for four and 15 for three. Horus pays 30, 25, 15 and 10, Anubis 25, 20, 12 and 7, Bastet 20, 15 and 10, and the sphinx 15, 10 and 7. The tablets are the weakest symbol at 7, 5 and 3.

The wins in our session match the table exactly. Four Anubis symbols on two ways paid 24.00 (2 x 12), and four Horus masks on two ways paid 30.00 (2 x 15). A spin dominated by Eye of Horus symbols across three full reels and many ways paid 756.00, about 30x the stake.

The Scatter and the Free Spins

The scatter is a red scarab with a golden sun. It pays anywhere, from 125 for four up to 875 for ten at our stake – 5x to 35x the total bet – with 250 for five, 375 for six, 500 for seven, 625 for eight and 750 for nine. In multiples of the total bet that is a clean ladder of 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 30x and 35x, rising by 5x for every extra scatter.

How the Grid Grows

The ways counts we captured show how the free spins grid opens. 972 ways can only be made as 4 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 – one reel had grown to four rows while the others still had three. 3,600 ways works out as 5 x 5 x 4 x 4 x 3 x 3, so by then two reels had reached five rows and two had reached four.

The dark stone blocks above the reels mark the rows that are still locked. As they break away, taller reels give each symbol more positions to land in, and the number of paying ways rises quickly even without new symbols.

The young pharaoh has a blue-and-gold striped headdress and a broad collar, the Horus mask is painted in deep blue with gold trim, and Anubis appears as a black jackal with gold jewellery. Bastet is a purple cat figure with an ankh, and the sphinx is a golden statue. The Eye of Horus, which produced our 756.00 win, is drawn on a bright red-orange background that makes large clusters easy to spot.
