Magician Merlin Overview

Magician Merlin is a five-reel, three-row slot from KA Gaming with 25 paylines, a 96.25% RTP, a low volatility rating and a published ceiling of 888x. It was released on 26 May 2025.

One correction before anything else: some catalogues list this as a single-payline game. The reels carry a vertical 25 LINES plate down both edges of the frame, on every capture, and that is the figure we use.

Two Characters Outside the Frame

The reels sit in a wooden frame below a castle keep, with green hills and blue mountains behind. Standing outside the frame are the game’s two characters: a knight in plate armour with a two-handed sword on the left, and Merlin in a blue robe with a glowing green staff on the right.

Inside, the symbols are a spear-carrying maiden, a white dragon, a red dragon, a blue lion shield, a golden chalice and five carved runes. A sword plate marked WILD and a starfield SCATTER complete the set.

The Two Characters Come Onto the Reels

This is the mechanic, and it is the reason those two figures are drawn twice. They arrive on the grid as full-height character reels with multipliers printed above them: the knight carries X1 and Merlin carries X2, side by side on the third and fourth reels.

The win banner then states the multiplier openly. One capture reads LINE 1 WINS $1000.00 (2X), and the WIN field shows $3,000.00. Another reads LINE 23 WINS $800.00 (2X) for a total of $1,700.00.

Those two are the best results in the session by a wide margin – 24x and 13.6x the stake – and both of them have the X1 and X2 columns standing together on the reels. Without the characters, nothing in the captures beat 4x.

The columns are easy to tell apart: the knight stands on a red panel and Merlin on a blue one, each filling all three rows with the multiplier plate sitting on top of it. They are the only symbols on the game that occupy a whole reel.

Look closely at the arithmetic and one of the two is doing nothing. The knight’s plate reads X1, which multiplies by one; the banner in both captures reports (2X), which is Merlin’s figure alone. So a knight column on its own adds reel coverage but no multiplication – it is Merlin you want to see.

That also tells you what a bigger result would need: a Merlin column landing beside a full line of the maiden, rather than two characters landing together.

The Paytable

At the $125.00 bet the maiden leads on $3,000.00 for five, $750.00 for four and $150.00 for three. The white dragon pays $2,000.00, the red dragon $1,200.00, the lion shield $900.00 and the chalice $750.00.

The five runes are the bottom of the table: two pay $400.00 for five and three pay $300.00, dropping to $25.00 for three of a kind.

The scatter is unusually generous for this studio: $2,500.00 for five, $1,500.00 for four and $750.00 for three – that last one is 6x the stake for a scatter trio, which is more than most of the line symbols manage across five reels.

Converted to the stake: five maidens is 24x, five white dragons 16x, five runes 2.4x, and the scatter tops out at 20x. So the published ceiling of 888x is reached nowhere on the table – it needs the character multipliers stacked on a full line.

What the Base Game Paid

Without the characters, the numbers are small and steady, which is exactly what a low volatility rating promises. The captures show $25.00 (0.2x), $75.00 (0.6x), $125.00 (exactly the stake back), $250.00 (2x) and $500.00 (4x).

The $500.00 spin is worth a look because it is the only one that got there without a character column: two wild sword plates on the second and fourth reels, filling a red dragon line.

Line after line the banner names a single winning line – LINE 15, LINE 8, LINE 19, LINE 13, LINE 11, LINE 23 – so on twenty-five lines this game pays one or two at a time rather than in bulk. The paying line is also drawn under the reels in a coloured trace, so it is obvious which of the twenty-five did the work.

Three of the seven recorded wins were at or below the stake: $25.00, $75.00 and $125.00 against a $125.00 bet. That is the part of a low-volatility slot that never makes the marketing – a large share of the “wins” are returns of part of what you just paid.

The wild is drawn as a sword on a gold plate with WILD written across it, and it appears as a single position rather than a stack – two of them on separate reels was enough for the session’s best non-character result.
