Giga Match Sugar Skull Overview

Giga Match Sugar Skull is a six-reel, five-row slot from Ruby Play with a scatter-pays (Pay Anywhere) system, cascading wins, an RTP of 96.32%, a medium volatility rating and a maximum win of 18,997x the bet. It was released on 3 September 2024, with stakes from 0.10 to 100.

Three systems run side by side: cascades that clear winning symbols and drop new ones in, a Match Blitz jackpot pick game whose four prizes grow with every run of cascades, and a free spins round in which multiplier symbols add together.

The figures below were read from demo play at total bets of €10 and €5.

Theme and Graphics

The setting is a small Mexican town during the Day of the Dead. Pastel houses in blue, orange and teal line both sides of the screen, their balconies overflowing with marigolds and purple flowers, and strings of papel picado bunting hang between them.

The atmosphere is gentle rather than loud. When the free spins begin, the same street turns to evening, with candles glowing on the window ledges and the flowers lit by lamplight.

The premium symbols are decorated sugar skulls in red, pink and green, followed by a golden marigold. The low symbols are the royals A, K, Q, J and 10, printed on colourful cut-paper banners. The scatter is a painted tile reading “SUGAR SKULL”.

How the Wins Work

There are no paylines. A win is simply eight or more of the same symbol anywhere on the 6x5 grid, and the paytable is divided into three bands: 8–9, 10–11 and 12+ matching symbols.

After each win the matching symbols explode and new ones fall into the gaps. The cascade repeats as long as new wins form, so a single paid spin can run through several steps. The footer spells out each step, with messages such as “MATCH 8 PAYS €15.00” or “MATCH 12 PAYS €20.00”.

The Paytable

At a €5 bet the paytable reads as follows (12+, 10–11 and 8–9):

The red skull pays €250, €125 and €50 – 50x the bet for twelve or more. The pink skull pays €125, €25 and €12.50. The green skull pays €75, €25 and €10, and the marigold €60, €10 and €7.50.

Among the royals, A pays €50, €7.50 and €5, K €40, €6 and €4, Q €25, €5 and €2.50, J €20, €4.50 and €2, and 10 €10, €4 and €1.

The jump from the 10–11 band to 12+ is steep for the best symbols: the red skull doubles, the pink skull quintuples. Filling twelve positions is what turns an ordinary cascade into a real win.

The skulls are also the symbols most likely to reach the upper bands, because they arrive in clusters of three or four across neighbouring reels. The royals are spread more thinly across the grid, so their matches tend to stop in the lower bands – and a screen with twelve or more red skulls is the base-game result worth waiting for.

What Our Base Game Paid

At a €10 bet, one spin paid €20.00 in total after a cascade that included a match of eight worth €15. Another cascaded to €17.33, and a third ran all the way to €44.00 – 4.4x – through a sequence of royal and skull matches.

These are the typical sizes of a cascading base game: frequent, modest, and usually built from the royals. The larger amounts come from the jackpot ladder and the bonus.

Match Blitz: The Growing Jackpots

Four prizes sit above the reels. At a €10 bet they start at Grand €20,000 (2,000x), Major €2,000 (200x), Minor €200 (20x) and Mini €100 (10x).

On the left is a ladder numbered 2 to 6, one step for each length of consecutive cascade. Every time a spin cascades two or more times, the matching step lights up and the prizes grow. In our captures the Grand had already climbed from €20,000 to €20,766.66, and the Major from €2,000 to €2,076.66, within a handful of spins.

The Match Blitz pick game can trigger at random after a cascade of two or more. You pick until three prizes match, collect that prize, and then all four reset to their starting values. According to the game’s own description, each prize can grow to as much as ten times its starting value – so a fully grown Grand is the route to the published 18,997x ceiling.

The ladder values in our captures show the scale of that growth. At the €10 bet, the sixth step – the top-tier boost for a six-cascade sequence – stood at €6,817.71, the fifth at €3,330.61 and the fourth at €1,694.51. Reaching those steps is rare, which is exactly why the Grand rarely moves far from its starting point in a short session.

Free Spins and Additive Multipliers

Four or more scatters trigger the bonus: 10 free spins, plus a scatter payout that reaches 100x the bet for six. Our trigger landed five scatters and paid €70.50 on a €5 bet before the round began.

During the free spins, multiplier symbols appear on the reels with values from x2 up to x100. Their values are added together and applied to the wins of the cascade in which they land. Landing three or more scatters in the same cascade during the round adds 5 extra free spins.

Our second free spin shows how the mechanism works: an x8 multiplier landed on the second reel, the round win jumped to €160.00, and the total climbed to €230.50 – 46x the €5 bet with eight spins still to play.

Because the multipliers are added rather than multiplied, several small values landing together are worth more than they look: an x2, an x3 and an x5 in the same cascade combine into a single x10. The round is also visibly calmer in pace than the base game, with the evening lighting and a separate “round win” box above the reels tracking the total.

Buy Feature

The free spins can be bought directly from the button at the left of the screen. The price is 100x the bet: €1,000 at a €10 stake and €500 at €5, confirmed by the purchase dialogue in our capture.

Who Should Play It

Giga Match Sugar Skull suits players who like cluster-style cascading games but want something to build towards between bonuses. The Match Blitz ladder is the key: even a losing session steadily raises the jackpots, so there is always a visible reason to keep going.

The trade-off is that the prizes reset after every pick game, not only the one you win. Medium volatility and a 96.32% return make it one of the more balanced titles in Ruby Play’s Giga Match series.
