Fortune of the Scarab Overview

Fortune of the Scarab is a classic Egyptian-themed slot from Retro Gaming, a studio in the Spinomenal group, released on 11 April 2024. It plays on a compact 3x3 grid with 5 fixed paylines, and SlotCatalog lists an RTP of 95.82%, a maximum win of 3,000x the bet and bets from 0.05 to 100. No volatility rating is published.

The numbers below come from our own demo session, played at a total bet of 50 – 10 per line.

A Temple in Purple and Gold

The three reels stand inside gold frames against a purple temple wall. The symbols mix the classic fruit-machine set with Egyptian icons: single, double and triple BARs, the Eye of Horus, a papyrus scroll, a golden pyramid, a jewelled scarab and red sevens.

Five Short Paylines

The five lines are the three rows plus the two diagonals. Line 1 is the middle row, lines 2 and 3 are the top and bottom rows, and lines 4 and 5 cross the grid corner to corner. All symbols pay from left to right, only three of a kind pay, and only the highest win on each line counts.

The Paytable

Wins are multiplied by the bet per line. The single BAR pays 20x the line bet for three, and the Eye of Horus, the scroll, the triple BAR and the double BAR each pay 40x. The pyramid pays 120x and the scarab 150x.

The game’s own configuration lists two higher symbols above the scarab, paying 300x and 3,000x the line bet for three. The sevens are the obvious candidates, but the paytable page we captured only shows the medium and low symbols.

Retro Bet and Retro Xtreme

A panel in the top left offers the Retro Bet: “turn on to activate Retro Xtreme”. With it switched on, the total bet in our session rose from 50 to 100. The rules state that payouts are made according to the original total bet, without the cost of the Retro Bet, and our captures confirm it – three Eyes of Horus on line 1 paid 400 with Retro Xtreme active, exactly the 40x line value at 10 per line.

With the Retro Bet on, a flaming seven appeared on the reels. The game does not explain on the captured pages what Retro Xtreme adds, so we only note what we saw.

What the Session Paid

Three single BARs on line 1 paid 200, and three triple BARs on line 5 paid 400 – both exactly as the paytable predicts. The best screen came when all nine positions showed a single BAR: every one of the five lines paid 200, for a total win of 1,000, 20x the bet. The balance moved from 5,000 to 5,400 by the end of our captures.

The Maximum Win

Three of the top symbol on all five lines would pay 5 × 3,000 = 15,000 line bets, which is exactly 3,000x the total bet – the published maximum. The configuration also carries a 1,500x cap, which matches 3,000x when the total bet is doubled by the Retro Bet; that is our reading of the two figures.

The Controls

The layout is simple. The large green SPIN button sits on the right, with a refresh-style autoplay button above it and a coin button below it for the bet. On the left are the help, turbo and sound buttons, and a small “5” badge in the top right shows the number of active lines. The balance, total win and total bet run along the bottom edge, and the line win and total win are also shown in the banner above the reels after each paying spin.

RTP and Volatility

A return of 95.82% sits a little below the typical 96% of modern slots. Retro Gaming does not publish a volatility rating, and SlotCatalog lists it as not available. With only 5 lines and wins that need three of a kind, most spins are either blank or pay a small line prize, and the large results depend on the higher symbols.

Who Should Play It
