Crazy Killer Overview

Crazy Killer is a horror-themed video slot from KA Gaming, released on 15 May 2024. It runs on a 6x4 grid with 20 fixed paylines, and its signature mechanic is a set of mirror reels: the left half of the grid is copied onto the right half on every spin. Bets run from 0.20 to 300 per spin.

A Deserted Hospital Corridor

The reels hang in a grey steel frame in the middle of a dark, run-down hospital corridor. Cracked tiles, dim light from the side windows and dark stains on the walls set the mood before the first spin. The words “20 Lines” are painted in red on both sides of the grid, and the lower card symbols look as if they were written in blood.

When the free games start, the scene moves to a blood-spattered room with a red armchair and a wooden cabinet, and the walls on both sides read “Free Game”. The killer himself is a tall figure in a white, stained coat with a plague-doctor mask – he appears on the free games announcement and on the reels as the wild.

Symbols and Payouts

The five premium symbols are weapons and tools: a chainsaw, an axe, a hammer, a knife and a pair of pliers. The low symbols are the card letters A, K, Q and J. Every symbol pays for three to six of a kind on a line, starting from the leftmost reel.

Mirror Reels

The feature that defines Crazy Killer is the mirror reels. On every spin, reels 1 and 6, reels 2 and 5, and reels 3 and 4 show exactly the same symbols. In practice the game only draws three reels, then copies them in reverse order onto the other half of the grid, so the screen always looks symmetrical.

This has a clear effect on the paylines. A symbol that appears on reels 1, 2 and 3 is automatically repeated on reels 4, 5 and 6, so a three-of-a-kind on the left side often grows into a longer line. In one of our base game spins, a diagonal of chainsaws ran from the top left down to reel 4 and paid $300 on line 5, which is 2x the bet.

The Scatter

The scatter is a pale, terrified face with wide pink eyes and the word “Scatter” underneath. Because of the mirror reels, scatters always land in pairs – one on each side of the grid – so the paytable only lists results for four and six of them. At the $150 bet, four scatters paid $300 (2x) and six paid $1,500 (10x), anywhere on the screen.

Expanding and Locked Wilds

The wild is the killer himself, shown as a full-height figure with the word “Wild” at his feet. In the free games, every wild that fills a reel stays locked for the rest of the round. With two or more reels locked as wilds, each new spin needs fewer matching symbols to complete a line. In that spin, a line of Q’s combined with the two wild reels and paid $60 on line 16, while the round’s total had reached $240. Our round finished with a total of $240, which is 1.6x the bet – a modest result, but the locked wilds mean that longer rounds can build up quickly.
