Book of Elixir Overview

Book of Elixir is an alchemy-themed slot from Gamebeat, released on 28 February 2021. It plays on 5 reels and 3 rows with 10 paylines, and it is a classic book slot: a spell book that acts as both wild and scatter, and ten free spins with a special expanding symbol.

SlotCatalog lists an RTP of 96.11%, medium-high volatility and stakes from 0.10 to 50. Gamebeat does not publish a maximum win, so our data box leaves that field empty. All figures below come from our demo session at a total bet of 40.00, which is 4.00 on each of the ten lines.

An Alchemist’s Workshop

The reels are set on deep red panels inside a candle-lit stone laboratory, with shelves of bottles in the background and an open book on the right. The premium symbols are a hooded witch, a wise owl, a green potion bottle and a bubbling cauldron. The low symbols are the letters A, K, Q, J and the number 10.

The red leather spell book is the symbol that matters most: it substitutes for all the others on a line and pays as a scatter anywhere on the screen.

The Paytable at 40.00

The game prints its paytable in cash for the current bet. The witch is the top symbol: five pay 20,000.00 (500x the total bet), four pay 4,000.00, three 400.00 and even two pay 40.00. Five owls pay 8,000.00, or 200x.

The potion and the cauldron pay 3,000.00 for five and 120.00 for three, and both pay 20.00 for just two. A and K pay 600.00, 160.00 and 20.00; Q, J and 10 pay 400.00, 100.00 and 20.00. Our captures match the table: three cauldrons on line 5 paid 120.00, two cauldrons on line 3 paid 20.00, and four kings on line 10 paid 160.00.

How the Lines Work

The rules page shows the ten winning paylines as small diagrams and states that all games are played on all lines. Symbols pay from left to right on adjacent reels, starting with the leftmost reel, and when a line holds more than one winning combination only the highest one is paid.

That matters in the base game, where most results come from short combinations. In our captures the balance moved from 10,000.00 to 9,960.00, 9,740.00 and back up to 10,100.00 – the typical slow drift of a book slot waiting for its bonus. The 140.00 spin shows how small wins add up: two cauldrons on line 3 paid 20.00, and other lines brought the spin’s total to 140.00.

The Book as Wild and Scatter

As a scatter, the book pays 8,000.00 for five (200x), 800.00 for four and 80.00 for three, wherever they land. As a wild, it completes lines for every other symbol. One spin shows the effect nicely: two books on reels 3 and 4 joined the tens on line 6, and the line paid 400.00 – the full five-of-a-kind price for the lowest symbol.

Free Spins with a Special Expanding Symbol

Three or more books trigger 10 free spins. Our trigger came from three books on reels 3, 4 and 5, which also paid the 80.00 scatter prize. At the start of the round one symbol is chosen at random as the special expanding symbol – in our round it was the A.

During the free spins, after the regular wins are paid, the special symbol can expand to cover its whole reel and pay on all ten lines, even when the reels are not next to each other. It only expands when there are enough of it on screen for a win. The rules add that the free spins are played on the same lines and bet as the spin that triggered them.

The rules call it a special expanding scatter symbol and state that it may expand to cover from 2 to 5 reels. The trigger screen presents it on an open book page: “10 FREE SPINS AWARDED” on the left, and the chosen symbol with the words “SPECIAL EXPANDING SYMBOL” on the right.

What the Round Paid

The biggest capture is a textbook example: the A landed on reels 1 to 4, expanded into four gold columns, and paid 1,600.00 in one spin – four aces on each of the ten lines at 160.00 each, or 40x the bet. With a premium symbol as the expanding symbol, the same picture would be worth far more, which is where the game’s big wins come from.

The round began at a balance of 9,400.00, after the 80.00 scatter prize from the trigger spin had been added. On the big spin the win counter was still rolling at 1,589.78 when the capture was taken, before it settled on the full 1,600.00.

The Ceiling in Theory

Gamebeat does not publish a maximum win, but the paytable gives a sense of scale. If the witch were drawn as the special expanding symbol and filled all five reels, each of the ten lines would pay the five-witch prize of 20,000.00 at our 40.00 bet – 200,000.00 in total, or 5,000x. That is our own calculation from the paytable, not an official figure, which is why the data box stays empty.

In practice the drawn symbol decides almost everything. A low letter like our A turns a full expansion into a solid 40x, while an owl or the witch can turn the same picture into a result worth hundreds or thousands of times the stake.

Controls

The interface is simple: sound on the left, spin, autoplay and bet buttons on the right, and the balance, the win and the total bet along the bottom edge. Each line win is announced with its line number – “WON 120.00 ON LINE 5” – so it is easy to check every payout against the table.

A Game Leaving the Market

SlotCatalog marks Book of Elixir as no longer supported since 24 July 2025, and none of our partner casinos listed it when we checked. Gamebeat’s own demo server still runs the game, so the free version above remains the easiest way to try it.

Who Should Play It

Book of Elixir suits players who like the book formula in its purest form: ten lines, one symbol that does two jobs, and a free spins round whose value depends on which symbol is drawn. The medium-high volatility means patience in the base game, but a premium expanding symbol can change a session quickly.

The stake range of 0.10 to 50 works out at 0.01 to 5.00 per line, so the demo is a good place to see how the free spins behave before choosing a level in a real-money version elsewhere.
