Fortuna Trueways Overview

Fortuna Trueways is a six-reel video slot from BGaming built on the studio’s Trueways engine, where every reel changes height on every spin and the number of ways changes with it. The published RTP is a high 97.07%, BGaming rates the volatility Very High (SlotCatalog says High), and the maximum win is 10,000x the stake – up to €250,000 according to the studio. It was released on 23 September 2024.

SlotCatalog lists bets from 0.10 to 125 per spin. All figures below come from our demo session, played at 10 FUN and 5 FUN stakes.

A Goddess Above the Reels

The game is set on Mount Olympus. Fortuna herself reclines along the top of the frame, marble temples stand on both sides of the grid, and the background turns from a pink sunset in the base game to a dark night sky with burning torches in the bonus.

The symbols fit the theme: a golden crown with a pink gem, a bowl overflowing with gold and jewels, a lyre, and two cut gems in blue and purple. The Wild is a golden statue of the goddess, and silver coins with multipliers printed on them drive the bonus feature.

How Trueways Works

Each of the six reels shows a different number of symbols on each spin, so the ways counter above the reels never stays still. In our session it read 64, 96, 720 and 10,080 ways on different spins. Tall reels hold many small symbols, and short reels hold a few big ones that fill several rows.

Coins can land in the base game as well. On one 64-ways spin, played with SpinUp switched on, a 4x and a 2x coin sat on the fifth and sixth reels next to a wall of pink blossom symbols – not enough coins for the feature, but a clear sign of how the respin round starts.

The Wild lands on reels two to five and substitutes for all regular symbols. A Mystery symbol “randomly transforms into one of the game’s paytable characters, except Wilds and Coins,” and a random main-game feature called Fortuna Favors the Brave drops expanded Wilds on reels three and four during a winning spin, which then break into smaller Wilds.

The rules page shows the basic principle with two grids: symbols pay on adjoining reels from left to right, starting on the first reel. A symbol on reel three does not count if reel two is empty of it.

The Paytable

The paytable is printed in cash for the current bet. At a 5 FUN stake the crown pays 2.50, 5.00, 10.00 and 25.00 for three to six of a kind – so six crowns are worth 5x the stake. The bowl pays up to 15.00 (3x), the lyre up to 10.00 (2x), and the two gems up to 5.00 (1x).

Those are modest numbers for a single way, but a Trueways win is rarely a single way. One of our base-game spins on 720 ways paid 1,440.00 on a 10 FUN bet – 144x – with gold bowls stacked across the reels and a Wild on the fifth reel. Another, on 10,080 ways, paid 120.00 (12x), and a crown combination on 96 ways paid 100.00 (10x).

Fortuna Spinup

To the left of the reels sits the Fortuna SpinUp switch. According to BGaming, it makes Mystery symbols, Coins and Wilds land more often, and with SpinUp active “every Wild has a multiplier of x2–x8.” The feature raises the bet and cannot be combined with Buy Bonus.

In our session the panel showed the extra cost as +40.00 at a 10 FUN stake and +20.00 at 5 FUN, and with the switch on, the total bet field read 50 FUN.

Coin Respin

The main feature is the Coin Respin, triggered by six or more coins. The round starts with 3 respins on a coin-only field and, in BGaming’s words, “continues until respins run out or all the reel cells are filled with Coins.” Silver coins lock in place, and each new coin resets the counter. Coins carry multipliers from 1x upwards; on our full board we saw values from 1x to 37x on the base reels and one coin worth 186x.

There are three kinds of coin. Regular coins are worth x1 to x25 the stake. Boost coins, as the message bar puts it, add their value to the other coins, and Collect coins gather all the coin values on screen. That is how single coins grow far beyond x25 during the round.

A Wheel of Fortune can also appear: in the base game it splits one symbol into eighths before the win is counted, and in the bonus it does the same to a coin cell.

The top right corner of the bonus shows a jackpot and a cell counter. In our round the counter reached 29/29 cells – every position on the board filled – and the jackpot plaque read 350x. BGaming calls this the Dynamic Prize: filling every cell pays between x30 and x5,000 of the stake, depending on how many cells the board has, and our 29-cell board was worth 350x. The round ended with a total win of 3,630.00 FUN on a 5 FUN bet, which is 726x the stake.

Buy Bonus

The Buy Bonus button sends you straight into the Coin Respin. At a 10 FUN bet it cost 2,000.00, and the “Buy Coin Respins” screen at a 5 FUN bet asked for 1,000.00 – both 200x the stake. Our bought round was the 726x board described above, so in that single case the purchase paid back more than three times its price.

The bought round opened with a large gold “Coin Respin” splash screen, and for the rest of the feature a “Bonus Active” label with the 1,000.00 price replaced the buy button on the left of the screen.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

A 97.07% RTP is well above the industry average of around 96%, which is unusual for a high-volatility game. The 10,000x ceiling is large, and the flat paytable – 5x for six crowns – shows where that ceiling comes from: the ways count and the coin feature, not single symbols.

SlotCatalog describes the layout as six to seven reels with up to 262,144 ways. The highest count we saw in our own session was 10,080.

Who Should Play It

Fortuna Trueways suits players who like shifting reels and a bonus where every coin can grow. The high RTP softens the swings a little, but the game still pays most of its money in the Coin Respin, so expect quiet stretches between big boards.

Players who prefer steady line wins may find the base game thin, since single symbols pay little and the reel heights decide almost everything.
