Dragon Age Hold and Win Overview

Dragon Age Hold and Win is an Asian-themed video slot from BGaming, released on 18 June 2024. It plays on 5 reels and 3 rows with 25 paylines, and it offers two separate bonus games: a Free Spins round and a Gold Respin round with coins, collectors and a Mega Jackpot.

BGaming lists an RTP of 96.14% and a maximum multiplier of x5,624. It does not publish a volatility rating, so we leave that field open rather than guess. SlotCatalog gives bets from $0.10 to $40. The numbers below come from our own demo session, played at a total bet of 10 FUN.

A Shape-Shifter Among the Mountains

The reels sit in a carved wooden frame with dragon ornaments, in front of red sandstone peaks and a blue sky. To the right stands the heroine in white robes, holding a long staff. According to BGaming, she is a shape-shifter who can turn into an amber dragon, and that is exactly what happens when a bonus game starts: the frame disappears and a golden dragon wraps its body around the reels, floating among the clouds.

The symbols follow the theme. The high-paying set is a gold ingot, a blue money pouch, a bundle of firecrackers and a green fan, while the low-paying set is made of ornate A, K, Q and J letters. The Wild is a dragon head, and the Scatter is a basket of jade eggs marked SCATTER.

The Paytable

The paytable shows five of a kind for the gold ingot at 500, four at 100 and three at 25. The money pouch pays 200, 50 and 15, the firecrackers 150, 40 and 10, and the fan 125, 30 and 10. All four letters share one line: 50, 10 and 5.

These values fit the game as multiples of the line bet. At our 10 FUN bet the line bet is 0.40, and a first-spin win of 12.00 FUN came from a group of purple Q symbols – six lines at 5 × 0.40 each. On that reading, five gold ingots on one line are worth 200 FUN, or 20x the total bet.

25 Fixed Lines

The info screen draws all 25 lines on small 5x3 grids. Line 1 runs through the middle row, lines 2 and 3 along the top and bottom rows, and lines 4 and 5 form a V and an inverted V. The rest zigzag across the reels in steps and waves. The lines are fixed, so every spin covers all 25 of them, and the bet is split evenly between them.

Free Spins

Three or more Scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 start the first bonus game. The award screen in our session read “You have won 10 Free Spins”, and BGaming confirms that the round uses high-paying symbols only – the letters leave the reels.

More Scatters inside the round add spins. On the third of our ten spins, three Scatters landed again and the game announced +10 Free Spins, lifting the counter to 20. By spin 16 of 20, the round had paid 372.00 FUN, or 37.2x the bet. One spin in the middle of the round filled most of the grid with gold ingots and blue pouches.

Coins can land during the free spins too. One of our free spin grids showed a coin worth 20.00 FUN among the high-paying symbols, and BGaming confirms that six or more coins will start the Gold Respin from inside the free spins as well as from the base game.

The Gold Respin

The second bonus game is triggered by six or more Coin symbols, both in the base game and during the free spins. The paytable describes it simply: a coin symbol, “6X GOLD”. In our session the game opened the round with a Gold Respin banner showing three gold coins.

Inside the round every coin becomes sticky, and BGaming states that each one carries a multiplier from x1 to x20 of the bet. Our captured board showed coins worth 10, 20, 30 and 140 FUN, plus a 210 FUN coin – a sum that points to the Collect symbol, which adds up the values of all other coins on the reels.

The coin values in our capture fit that range. At a 10 FUN bet, a 10 FUN coin is x1, a 20 FUN coin x2, a 30 FUN coin x3 and the 140 FUN coin x14 – all inside BGaming’s x1–x20 band. Only the 210 FUN value falls outside it, which is why we read it as a collected total.

The third special symbol is Plus Spin, which adds one more respin and, according to BGaming, multiplies when several of them land. The counter in our capture stood at 1 respin, with most of the fifteen positions already filled.

The Mega Jackpot

A sign on the left of the base game reads MEGA JACKPOT 50,000.00 FUN at our 10 FUN bet – that is 5,000x the bet. BGaming explains how to win it: fill all 15 positions with coins during the Gold Respin. The published x5,624 maximum sits just above the jackpot; BGaming does not break down how the extra part is reached.

BGaming also gives the cash figure for the top result: a maximum win of €253,080, which is the x5,624 multiplier applied to the highest bet. The jackpot sign in the base game changes with the bet, so it always shows the exact amount on offer for the current stake.

Buying a Bonus

The Buy Bonus button on the left opens two offers. At a 10 FUN bet, Buy Free Spins cost 500 FUN (50x) and Buy Respins cost 400 FUN (40x). Both prices scale with the bet, which can be changed on the same screen.

The respin offer is the cheaper way into the jackpot chase, while the free spins version buys a longer round with retriggers. Either way it is a large share of a session budget, so it pays to decide in advance how many purchases you are willing to make.

What the Session Did

The balance moved from 846 FUN during the free spins to 1,142 FUN before the Gold Respin, then to 1,542 FUN and 1,612 FUN later in the session. The paytable screen at that point showed a last total win of 470 FUN, which is 47x the bet.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

A 96.14% return is in line with the market average. BGaming also lists a hit rate of 2.39 and a free spins rate of 182, which we read as one win in roughly every 2.4 spins and one free spins trigger in about 182 spins. The x5,624 ceiling is close to the Mega Jackpot, which makes the Gold Respin the round that carries the biggest results.

Who Should Play It

Dragon Age Hold and Win suits players who like two different bonus routes in one game. The free spins give a steady round with retriggers, and the Gold Respin gives a coin chase with a clear target: fifteen positions and a 5,000x jackpot. Players who prefer to skip the wait can buy either round directly.
