Pragmatic Play has many money-themed slots under their belt already, but none of them are quite like what you get in Cash Box. There are no regular win ways in this game, and instead you get a random amount of cash boxes that open up per spin. There are 15 cash boxes in total, but most of them remain closed on average. You need 3+ cash prizes from the open boxes to win the sum total, and the boxes can also reveal jackpots.

The jackpots are won in the same way, but you need 3, 4, or 5 jackpot symbols, respectively, to win the corresponding jackpot prize. The Grand Jackpot is worth 5,000x your stake, which also happens to be the game’s win cap, and you basically get more of the same when the bonus round triggers. It comes with nothing extra in terms of features, and non-UK players can purchase it for 100x the stake. With a bit more effort Cash Box could’ve been a decent game, but it’s a bit too barebones to be memorable despite the unusual win system.

Cash Box Slot Features

You don’t get regular win ways in this game, as each spin comes with 15 cash boxes that either open or remain closed. Most remain closed for any given spin, and the open cash boxes reveal cash prizes between 0.05x and 50x your stake. You need at least 3 cash prizes in view to win the sum total of the revealed prizes, and cash boxes can also reveal jackpots. These are won as follows:

  • Reveal 3 Mini Jackpot symbols to win 40x your stake.
  • Reveal 4 Major Jackpot symbols to win 500x your stake.
  • Reveal 5 Grand Jackpot symbols to win 5,000x your stake.

You trigger the Bonus Round when the cash boxes reveal 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols, and this gives you 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. You also win 1x, 5x, or 10x your stake up front from the scatters, respectively, and there is no difference from the base game except for the fact that you obviously don’t pay for the free spins. You can retrigger the bonus round the same way it was triggered in the first place.

The Bonus Buy feature is called the “Buy Free Spins” option in this game, and it’s available in some jurisdictions. It’s not available in the UK for sure, however, and if you are eligible you can pay 100x the stake to get 3 to 5 triggering scatters. The RTP is a tad higher when you purchase the feature, but not really noticeable. The bonus round comes with a 1 in 205 spins organic hit rate.

The 200 Spins Cash Box Slot Experience

You get to see a few uneventful base game spins, before we purchase and trigger the bonus round at 0:31 into the 2:41-minute highlights video. We got 3 triggering scatters, which gave us the minimum of 10 free spins, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

We appreciate that Pragmatic Play is bold enough to try something different once in a while, and Cash Box is not your run of the mill production (although it kind of looks like it at first glance). The cash box instant prize reveal system is decent, but the prizes are usually not all that impressive. In theory, you can crack the 5,000x potential even from a base game spin though, either with enough solid prize and/or jackpot symbols, or via the Grand Jackpot.

Most of the time, however, you hardly get top-up wins, and the gameplay gets boring rather quickly. Cash Box would have benefitted from some modifier action, and more elaborate gameplay, and not least in the bonus round. The fact that there is no difference between the base game and the “main attraction” hardly helps, and Cash Box therefore comes across as a curiosity that will probably soon be forgotten after the initial novelty wears off.
