Zeus the Thunderer OverviewZeus the Thunderer is a Greek mythology slot from Mascot Gaming, released on 29 June 2021. It runs on 5 reels and 4 rows with 20 paylines, and Mascot gives it an RTP of 95.3%, low volatility and a hit rate of 45.06% – almost every second spin returns something. Mascot does not publish a maximum win for the game. The numbers below come from our own demo session, played at bets of €10.00 and €2.00. A Temple Above the CloudsThe reels stand inside an open marble temple floating on a sea of white clouds, with a night sky and golden columns on both sides. The gods are the premium symbols: Zeus with his white beard and laurel crown, Hades with red skin and dark horns, and Aphrodite with golden hair. A golden laurel wreath and an ancient two-handled jug complete the high group, and the low symbols are the card ranks from 10 to A, carved in stone. A round golden medal marked WILD substitutes for the regular symbols, and a lightning bolt marked SCATTER belongs to the free spins. Mascot counts 13 symbols in total, two of them special – the wild and the scatter. Twenty Lines on a 5x4 GridThe bet lines screen draws all 20 lines on the four-row grid. Lines 1 to 4 run straight across each of the four rows, and the rest zig-zag between them in V shapes, steps and waves, so a symbol in the middle two rows sits on far more lines than one at the top or bottom edge. That matters because the gods often land stacked. When two or three of the same god fill part of a reel, several lines can pass through them in the same spin – exactly what happened in our best free spins result. The winning lines are drawn across the grid after each spin, so it is easy to follow which symbols paid. The PaytableThe paytable is printed in cash for the current bet. At €2.00 Zeus pays €30.00 for five, €7.50 for four, €2.00 for three and €0.50 for two – five Zeus symbols are worth 15x the stake. Hades pays €20.00, €7.50, €2.00 and €0.50, and Aphrodite €17.50, €6.50, €2.00 and €0.50. The laurel wreath pays €15.00, €5.00, €1.50 and €0.20. All three gods and the wreath pay for just two of a kind, which helps explain the high hit rate. The three gods’ values carry an asterisk in the paytable, because they are the symbols that become sticky in their own free spins series. What the Base Game PaidAt €10 the base game produced a steady stream of small results. A line of jugs paid €2.00, three kings on the top row paid €5.00 and a wild-assisted combination paid €3.50. The best base-game screen at that stake was €20.00 – 2x the bet, with two scatters and a wild on the top row. At €2 one spin collected wins on several lines at once – jugs, laurel wreaths and gods across the grid – for €4.90, or 2.45x. That is the low-volatility pattern in miniature: frequent, modest wins that keep the balance moving slowly. Three Free Spins SeriesThe free spins are the heart of the game, and they come in three versions, one for each god. In the Zeus series, all Zeus symbols become sticky; in the Hades and Aphrodite series, the same happens with Hades or Aphrodite. A sticky god stays on the reels until the series ends or until it becomes part of a winning combination. Every scatter that lands during the free spins adds one extra spin, so a series can run longer than it starts. We landed a series of 15 free spins with Zeus sticky symbols. As the Zeus heads built up on the reels, one spin filled most of the grid with the god – stacked on reels two to five – and paid €60.50 at the €2 stake, over 30x in a single spin. With five spins still to go the round stood at €63.60, and it closed at €68.60 – 34.3x the bet. The paytable shows why Zeus is the series to hope for: his five-of-a-kind is the most valuable line in the game. Risk and BuyMascot’s Risk & Buy feature gives two more ways into the bonus. After a winning spin, you can risk the win for a chance to get one of the three free spins series instead. After a non-winning spin, you can buy a series outright. The price depends on the series and the bet and is shown in the game. Stakes and ControlsThe controls sit in a strip below the reels: the bet selector on the left, an autoplay button, the large round spin button in the middle and a button for the Risk & Buy menu beside it. The bet, the last win and the balance are always visible in euros. The side menu opens the paytable, the bet lines, the game settings and a history of recent rounds. During the free spins the strip changes to show the number of spins left and a running total win for the series, so you can see how the round is going at a glance. Deluxe and Branded VersionsThe game has spawned a small family. Our partner casinos also list Zeus The Thunderer Deluxe and a branded 1Win Zeus the Thunderer Deluxe, both from Mascot, and Mascot’s catalogue adds other Zeus titles such as Zeus the Invincible and Zeus Titan Fury. They are separate games with their own rules; this review covers the original 2021 release. Be careful with the name as well: an older Zeus the Thunderer from the studio MrSlotty, a 25-line game on a 5x3 grid, appears in the same lobbies together with its sequel, Zeus the Thunderer II. Check the provider before you start. The Numbers to Keep in MindA 95.3% return is a little below the market average, and the low volatility means the swings are gentle: in our €10 session the balance moved between €38 and €93.50, and the biggest result came from the free spins rather than the base game. Because no maximum win is published, the paytable is the best guide – a sticky-symbol series full of gods is where the large results come from. Who Should Play ItZeus the Thunderer suits players who like frequent small wins, a classic Greek theme and a bonus they can influence. The choice between three free spins series and the Risk & Buy option gives more control than a standard slot, and the demo above lets you try each god first. Where to Play Zeus the ThundererYou can try this game on SunClub Online Casino. There’s a unique casino bonus offer of 400% up to £1500 for a limited time. Mascot’s Zeus the Thunderer was listed at five of our six partner casinos when we checked on 24 September 2026 – all except AztecParadise, which carries only an older game of the same name from another studio. |
