Missing data counts as neutral. The score reflects the game's numbers and features, not your chances of winning; slots are games of chance, so please play responsibly.

Shield Wall Set Sail sends EGT Digital’s five-reel, three-row engine on a Viking raid. Three wild warriors, one purple, one golden and one red, wait on the reels, and a trio of painted shields below the grid decides how much their appearance is worth. The game uses 10 fixed paylines, lists a 96.3% return with high volatility, and caps a round at 10,000 times the stake.

Warriors and Their Shields

The Viking wilds can land on every reel, but only the colour that matches the shield beneath a reel does anything special. The purple Viking belongs to the second reel, the golden one to the third and the red one to the fourth. When a warrior lands on a reel whose shield has the same colour, it expands to cover the whole reel and switches that shield’s multiplier on.

The shields carry random values between x2 and x10 and change on every spin, so the base game screenshots show different numbers each time, for example x2, x9 and x6 under the second, third and fourth reels. Active multipliers are added together and then applied to every line win of the spin, which means two matching warriors can be worth far more than one.

The Shield Wall

The feature named in the title appears when the golden Viking expands at the same time as at least one of the other two. Golden and red together push the golden shield up by 5. Purple and golden together add 3 to the golden shield. When all three warriors expand on the same spin, every active shield value is doubled. These boosts apply to multipliers that were already switched on, so the Shield Wall is a stacking tool rather than a prize of its own.

Apart from the wilds, the reels use runic stones and Norse treasures. A beer barrel wrapped in a serpent, an axe, a hammer and a carved ring stand alongside the card symbols, and the longship scatter appears on the first, third and fifth reels only.

Free Spins With a Shield Counter

Three scatters start the Free Spins, and the round begins with just three spins. Each time a Viking wild shows up the counter resets to three, so a run of warriors keeps the round alive. The screen changes completely, with grey, non-paying symbols on the reels and a row of five shields at the bottom, each starting at x1, because there are no line wins during this feature.

The payout comes entirely from the shields. Every Viking that lands carries its own value. The purple warrior carries x2 to x5, and that value is multiplied by the shield under the reel where it lands. The golden warrior adds 1 to 5 to all the shields at once, and the red warrior adds 2 to 10 to the shield beneath it. A warrior that lands on a reel with a matching shield expands and has its value tripled. When the round finishes, all shield values are added up and the bet is multiplied by that total.

The screenshots follow one round from the start. The congratulations screen announces three free spins, the first spins show shields at x1 and then a golden shield at x3, and a few spins later the row reads x6, x8, x11, x4 and x4 as warriors keep landing. A large banner counts the total at x13 and later at x32 as the round closes.

A quick example shows how the layers interact. A purple warrior showing x4 that lands above a shield at x3 contributes 12, because its own value is multiplied by the shield beneath it, whereas the red and golden warriors add their values instead. If that warrior also lands on a reel with a matching shield colour, it expands and the value is tripled, and a Shield Wall combination on top of that can add a further boost or double everything. This is why the totals in the screenshots can jump so quickly from one spin to the next.

Buying In

The Buy Bonus button on the left opens a menu with two choices. Buying the Free Spins costs 100 times the bet, and in the demo that came to 40,000 at a stake of 400. The Double Bonus Chance costs 1.2 times the bet, 480 at the same stake, and raises the number of scatters on the reels to double the odds of triggering the feature. A bought round finishes the same way, with the collected shield values multiplied by the base bet.

Both options are marked clearly, and there is a Buy Bonus Every Spin toggle for anyone who wants the feature to stay one click away. Stake buttons run from 400 to 1,000 in the demo, with a turbo toggle next to the spin button.

Jackpot, Double-Up and Stakes

A four-level progressive jackpot, Grand, Major, Minor and Mini, is displayed across the top of the screen with the Clover Chance logo on the left. It can start at random after a base spin or a free spins round and plays as a chest-picking game with fifteen chests, twelve of which hold pearls and three of which hold level-up clovers.

The game also has an optional double-up, in which a win of 750 or less can be risked on a red or black choice for up to five attempts. The feature is turned off after a progressive jackpot win, and the round ends at 10,000 times the stake, so that is the real upper limit regardless of how high the shields climb.

Where the Value Sits

The two modes feel very different. The base game is a steady mid-volatility slot in which the shields add a bit of colour to ordinary line wins, while the free spins behave like a build-up game where the final multiplier is what counts. Watching the shield row grow is the main source of tension, and the reset to three spins on each warrior keeps a promising round going.
