Gemza Overview

Gemza is a gem-hunting slot from BGaming, released on 15 December 2023. It plays on a 5x5 grid with pay-anywhere wins and cascades, plus a separate single row beneath the main field that spins on its own. The Story Behind the Grid

BGaming frames the game as a dwarven legend: the gnomes mined so many precious stones that they hid them in a dark cave – and woke a fire-breathing dragon that now guards the hoard. The dragon is part of the scenery around the reels, its head and tail curling around mounds of gold in the free spins, while the main game sits in front of a stone gate in a frozen cavern.

How Wins Are Formed

Gemza uses the Bonanza-style model: there are no paylines, and a win lands when enough matching gems appear anywhere on the 5x5 field. Winning gems disappear and new ones drop in, so one spin can chain several wins. The gems come in the familiar colours – blue diamonds, green emeralds, pink hearts, yellow squares – while the lower symbols are carved stone shapes in the grid.

Below the main field sits the extra reel, a single horizontal row with its own symbols. BGaming describes it as a separate reel for extra winnings, and in our screenshots it carries gems and keys of its own.

Keys and Chests

The feature symbol is the golden key. According to BGaming, the bonus game starts when players unearth 4 old chests full of diamonds, and the keys bring the multipliers. In one base-game screenshot five keys are spread across the grid and the extra row, with the total win at 30.00; another screen from the same balance announces “Congratulations! You’ve won 15 free spins”, also with 30.00 on the meter – so the keys and the award most likely belong to the same spin.

Free Spins

The bonus moves to the dragon’s treasure room. Here the keys unlock chests on the grid, and each chest adds a value to the win: in our round a +4.00 popped out of a chest at free spin 2 of 15, when the total stood at 68.50 FUN on a 10.00 bet.

The round can also extend itself. A few spins later a “Congratulations! +5 Free Spins” panel appeared at spin 11, with the total at 402.50, and the counter jumped to 20 spins. By spin 16 of 20 the game played its biggest celebration: Super Mega Win 882.00 FUN – 88x the bet.

What Our Session Showed

The screenshots give a clear picture of how the game pays:

Base game at 10.00: a trigger spin paid 30.00 (3x) as the keys landed.
With Chance x2 active the stake rose to 12.50, and one gem cluster added +25.00 in a spin totalling 37.00.
In free spins, the chest values stack on top of the gem wins, which is how the round climbed from 68.50 to more than 400 and then past 800.

Buy Bonus and Chance x2

Two side panels flank the grid. Buy Bonus opens a dragon-crowned stone tablet: at a 10.00 bet the price is 1,000.00 FUN – 100x. Chance x2 raises the stake by a quarter (10.00 becomes 12.50) and, in BGaming’s words, gives the player more chances to hit free spins. The two cannot be used together – the Chance feature switches off when Buy Bonus is active.

Reading the Screen

The interface keeps everything in one bar under the grid: balance on the left, Total bet with arrow buttons, the current Win and the running Total win, then a free-spin counter on the right during the bonus. The spin button doubles as quick-spin: the game tells you to “hold spin for quick spins”. Autoplay sits next to it. In the free spins the counter shows both the current spin and the total, which is how we could follow the round growing from 15 to 20 spins after the retrigger.
