Scratch Alpaca Overview

Scratch Alpaca is an instant-win scratch card from BGaming, released on 19 October 2023. In the game itself the card carries the Scratch Alpaca Gold logo, and the demo on this page is BGaming’s Gold card. A cool alpaca in sunglasses gives two thumbs up over a golden card, and gold coins shower the screen whenever a win lands. SlotCatalog lists an RTP of 90%, high volatility and a top prize of 100,000x the card price.

How a Card Works

BGaming’s rules describe a 3x3 field hidden under a protective layer. Press Buy and you receive a card and a coin to scratch it with. If three identical prizes appear anywhere on the field, you win that amount – the card simply reads “Match 3 to win”. Once less than 20% of the layer is left, the rest scratches itself, and the Scratch All button reveals the whole card at once. On our screenshots the scratching tool is a gold coin stamped with BGaming’s B logo, and the strip at the bottom of the screen always shows the card price (BET Amount: 2.50 FUN) next to your balance.

Card Price and Prizes

In the demo a card costs a fixed 2.5 FUN, shown in the top-left corner. Before you scratch, the card promises a “Chance to win 250,000 FUN” – exactly 100,000 times the price. The values we uncovered on our cards were 2.5, 5, 25, 125, 250, 625, 1,250, 6,250 and 25,000, from a refund of the stake up to 10,000x.

Wins From Our Session

• 2.50 FUN – three 2.5s, which simply returns the card price.
• 5.00 FUN – three 5s, 2x the card.
• 25.00 FUN – three 25s, 10x the card.

Most cards between those wins paid nothing, which fits a game built around a very rare top prize. The balance tells the story: it stood at 1,000 FUN after the 2.50 refund, had dropped to 967.50 by the time the 5.00 win arrived, and was back to 975 after the 25.00 card.

Reading the Card

Every prize is printed on the card as a FUN amount rather than a multiplier, so what you see is exactly what you win. BGaming’s paytable has 16 prize levels, from the smallest refund up to the 250,000 top prize, and a single card shows nine of them. A matched set lights up, the rest of the card fades, and the win appears in large letters over the alpaca’s fleece.

Gold and Bronze

The Gold card is not the only one. BGaming’s demo server also runs a Scratch Alpaca Bronze card with the same alpaca theme. The screenshots and the demo on this page are from the Gold version, the one SlotCatalog lists as Scratch Alpaca.

Autoplay and Free Cards

Autoplay lets you set the number of rounds, turn on Turbo mode and add a loss limit and a win limit, both counted in card prices. In autoplay the layer scratches itself. Operators can also hand out free cards: the Buy button then changes to a Free Card counter and your balance is not charged.

RTP and Numbers

A 90% RTP is low next to most slots, but typical for scratch cards, where much of the return sits in the rare top prizes. SlotCatalog adds that you can buy one card or ten at a time.
