How we rate games

Every slot is scored on the same four criteria, using the game's published data: RTP (40%), maximum win potential (25%), bonus features described in our review (30%) and how recent the release is (5%). Our editors can adjust a score after playing the game. Missing data counts as neutral. The score reflects the game's numbers and features, not your chances of winning; slots are games of chance, so please play responsibly.

Reveal the Kraken Overview

Reveal the Kraken is a sea-monster slot from Mascot Gaming, released on 24 October 2023 according to the studio (SlotCatalog lists 25 October). It plays on 5 reels and 4 rows with 20 fixed paylines, and its whole design turns on one idea: wilds that stick to the grid and keep a bonus round alive.

Mascot rates the game as high volatility, and SlotCatalog gives an RTP of 95.2%. The banner above the reels promises wins of up to x4500. SlotCatalog lists a lower maximum of x1000, which matches the cap of the game’s Risk wheel rather than the ceiling of the slot itself, so our data box follows the game’s own x4500 figure.

The numbers below come from our demo session, played at a bet of 40.00, so a win divided by forty is its multiple of the stake.

A Graveyard of Ships

The reels float in a dark underwater cave. A wrecked galleon lies on the seabed to the right, skulls and bones are scattered over the rocks on the left, and a pale green light filters down from above. The grid itself is made of weathered stone tiles.

The premium symbols are pirate treasures – a treasure chest, a golden compass, a curved sword and a purple anchor – and the four card suits cover the low end. The Kraken is the wild: a blue octopus that grows long tentacles when it fills a position in the bonus.

The Paytable

The paytable is printed in cash for the current bet. At the minimum bet of 0.20 the treasure chest pays 15.00 for five, 2.50 for four and 0.75 for three – so five chests on a line are worth 75x the stake.

The compass pays 5.00, 1.50 and 0.50 (25x for five), the sword 2.50, 1.00 and 0.40, and the anchor 1.25, 0.75 and 0.25. The card suits sit below that.

In our session, three compasses linked by a Kraken wild paid 200.00 (5x) on the 40.00 bet, and a row of spades with anchors on another line returned 160.00 (4x). These are the typical base-game results: the real money is kept for the bonus.

Twenty Lines and the Base Game

The rules page draws all 20 bet lines across the 5x4 grid: the four straight rows first, then zigzags and V shapes that cross several rows. With four rows instead of the usual three, a single symbol on reel 3 can sit on a large number of lines at once, which is why a wild in the middle of the grid is so valuable.

The base game in our session was calm, as the paytable suggests. The balance started at 10,000.00 and moved to 9,960.00 and then 10,040.00 across the captured spins – small wins keeping it close to the starting point while we waited for the bonus.

How the Bonus Game Works

A message above the reels explains the trigger: three or more bonus symbols start the Bonus Game. Mascot describes it precisely. The round begins with a single bonus spin, and every new wild adds another spin. All wilds that land become sticky and stay in place, so each spin builds on the one before.

When the Bonus Game ends, the Super Bonus Game follows. It starts with three bonus spins and keeps every sticky wild collected so far, and each new wild now reloads the counter back to three. The screen message in our round confirmed the order: “You won the bonus game with sticky wilds – the super bonus game will start at the end of the bonus game.”

The Extra Bonus

There is one more layer. If sticky wilds fill the entire screen in either bonus round, the round ends at once and the game pays the prize for the most expensive symbol on all 20 lines, multiplied by the number of bonus spins still remaining.

That rule explains how the game can reach far beyond the 75x line prize of the chest: a full screen of wilds pays every line at the top rate, and the remaining spins multiply the result.

Buying the Bonus

The Buy Bonus Game button on the left opens two offers. At our 40.00 bet the regular Buy Feature cost 2,240.00 (56x), and a Special Offer next to it sold the same bonus game for 2,160.00 (54x). The Special Offer changes after every spin, so it is worth checking the price again before you buy.

Our Bonus Round

We took the Special Offer, and the balance dropped from 9,840 to 7,680. The round built up a board full of sticky Kraken wilds; with two spins left the total stood at 430.00.

The final spin added a 1,200.00 line win, and the round closed at 1,980.00 – 49.5x the base bet. That is slightly less than the 54x we paid, which is a fair picture of a high-volatility buy: the average result sits near the price, and the big outcomes need a much fuller board.

The Risk Wheel

After a win you can choose Collect or Risk. The Risk game is a wheel with x2 and x3 segments; our 1,980.00 could have been staked on it, and the screen showed the maximum possible winnings as 40,000.00 – exactly 1,000x the 40.00 bet. This is the x1000 figure that SlotCatalog lists as the game’s maximum.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

An RTP of 95.2% is below the industry average of around 96%, and it is worth knowing before you play. It fits the design: much of the game’s value is held back for the full-screen Extra Bonus and the Super Bonus, which do not come often.

SlotCatalog lists a bet range of 0.20 to 20; the demo we played allowed a stake of 40.00, so the exact range may depend on the casino and currency. Mascot’s own summary is short and clear: 5 reels, 4 rows, 20 pay lines and high volatility.

Who Should Play It

Reveal the Kraken suits players who like a bonus that grows as it runs. The sticky-wild mechanic is easy to follow, and the Super Bonus gives every wild a second life.

The high volatility and the 95.2% RTP mean long quiet stretches are part of the deal, and the buy price of around 54x–56x needs a good board to pay back.
