Minotaurs Wilds Overview

Minotaurs Wilds is a Greek mythology slot from Mascot Gaming, released on 19 September 2023 according to the studio (SlotCatalog lists 22 September). It plays on 5 reels and 3 rows with 10 fixed paylines, and bets run from 0.20 to 50 per spin.

Mascot rates the game as high volatility and gives an RTP of 95.16% with a hit rate of 21.5%, so roughly one spin in five pays something. The banner above the reels promises wins of up to x2000, and Mascot’s own review of the game names the same figure. SlotCatalog does not publish a maximum win, so our data box follows the game’s x2000.

The figures below come from our demo session at a bet of 50.00. With ten lines that is 5.00 per line, and a win divided by fifty is its multiple of the stake.

A Labyrinth Under a Stormy Sky

The reels float in front of a rocky island crowned with a fortress, with jagged mountains and heavy clouds behind it. The Minotaur himself stands on the left of the screen, a huge armoured figure with a double axe, and he swings it now and then between spins. The symbols sit in square stone frames, and the low symbols are painted card ranks in red and dark brush strokes.

According to Mascot, the free spins move to a second, darker setting at the entrance of the maze, so the two parts of the game look clearly different.

Minotaurs Wilds was the third Mascot release built on the studio’s revamped Risk & Buy system, and Mascot later named it its slot game of the month. Greek mythology also returns in other Mascot titles, such as Zeus the Thunderer.

The Paytable

The rules screen shows the payouts in cash for the current bet. At 50.00 the Minotaur pays 5,000 for five, 1,250 for four and 250 for three – five of them on one line are worth 100x the total bet, or x1000 the line bet. Theseus pays 2,500 (50x), the golden-haired goddess 2,000 (40x), the priestess in green 1,250 (25x) and Ariadne 500 (10x).

The card ranks are much smaller: the Ace pays 375 for five, the King and Queen less, and the 10 and Jack the least, at x25 the line bet. With only ten lines, a single line of top symbols matters far more here than on a ways game.

The rules list the usual line-slot conditions. All prizes are for combinations from left to right starting on the leftmost reel, only the highest win on each line is paid, and the lines are fixed, so every spin plays all ten. The payout values change with the selected bet, which means the rules screen always shows real money for your stake rather than abstract multipliers.

The ten line patterns are simple: three straight rows and seven bent or zigzag lines across the 5x3 grid. There are no ways or clusters to track, so every win can be read directly from the line that lights up.

Two Kinds of Wild

The game has two wilds. The silver helmet is the ordinary Wild and substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter and the Gold Wild. The Gold Wild is the stronger one: the banner above the reels describes it as a symbol that substitutes for absolutely all symbols, and Mascot adds that it doubles any win it takes part in. If several Gold Wilds are in the same combination, the x2 is applied only once. Gold Wilds land on reels 2, 3 and 4.

One of our captures shows a Gold Wild and a Scatter landing side by side on the top row of reels 2 and 3, under the banner “Win up to x2000!”. That is the combination the free spins need: Scatters and Gold Wilds count together towards the trigger, so a Gold Wild on the middle reels is always worth watching.

Our first capture shows how the helmets work: two silver Wilds on the bottom row of the first two reels joined a line and paid 80.00 (1.6x). A busier spin later had helmets on three reels and a Minotaur on the first, and several lines together paid 510.00 – 10.2x the stake.

Free Spins With Sticky Gold Wilds

The Scatter is Ariadne’s thread, a ball of golden yarn that appears on the middle reels. Three Scatters – or Scatters together with Gold Wilds, as the banner puts it – award 10 free spins. The award screen in our session read: “You won 10 free spins with sticky wilds symbols.”

During the free spins every Gold Wild becomes sticky and stays in place until the end of the round, so each new one adds to the doubling wilds already on the reels. The rules add a bonus on top: when reels 2, 3 and 4 are completely filled with sticky Gold Wilds, the round awards 3 more free spins. The free spins are played at the bet that triggered them.

Buy Free Spins

The button on the right of the reels opens the buy menu, which offers two prices for the same 10 free spins. At our 50.00 bet the standard Buy Feature cost 3,450 (69x), and the Special Offer cost 3,400 (68x). The special price changes after every spin, so it can be worth checking both before you buy.

The Risk Game

After a win the game offers the Risk Game, a three-level wheel of fortune with x2 and x3 segments. We were offered it twice, for wins of 500.00 and 360.00, and both times the screen showed a maximum possible win of 50,000 – 1,000x the 50.00 bet. According to Mascot, an arrow segment lifts you to the next level, where the multipliers are bigger and so is the risk.

The wheel itself has red x2 and x3 segments on the outer ring and smaller inner rings in purple and green, which is where the higher levels sit. Like any gamble, it is best treated as a separate bet rather than part of the slot’s maths.

The Risk Game is optional. You can collect every win and play Minotaurs Wilds as a plain line slot with free spins.

What the Session Showed

Most of our base-game wins were in the 1.6x–10x range: 80.00, 250.00 from a row of three heroines joined by a helmet in the middle row, and 510.00 from the helmet spin. The balance moved between about 9,400 and 10,460 over those spins. That is the shape the numbers suggest – a hit rate near 21% and a high-volatility rating mean the base game keeps you going while the real money waits in the sticky-wild free spins.

Who Should Play It

Minotaurs Wilds suits players who like classic ten-line slots with one strong feature. The doubling Gold Wild is easy to follow, and the sticky free spins give a clear goal: fill the middle reels and watch the wins double.

The 95.16% return is a little below the market average, and the high volatility means dry spells are part of the game. Players who want to skip the wait can buy the feature at around 68–69x.
