Lucky Reefs Overview

Lucky Reefs is an underwater slot from GameArt, released on 29 August 2023. It plays on a 5x3 grid with 20 paylines, and SlotCatalog lists an RTP of 96.29% – rising to 97.49% when you use the bonus buy – with low volatility and a maximum win of 2,600x. Stakes run from 0.20 to 100 per spin.

The game is built around one feature: a pearl wild that expands over its reel and brings a respin. Around it sit a gamble game, a scatter prize and a bonus buy.

The Paytable

The info pages list every win in cash at the current stake. At a $20 bet:

  • Shark: $2,000 for five (100x), $250 for four, $50 for three, and $10 even for two
  • Anglerfish: $500 / $100 / $40 – 25x, 5x and 2x
  • Pufferfish: $300 / $75 / $30 – 15x, 3.75x and 1.5x
  • A, K and Q: $100 / $30 / $10 – 5x, 1.5x and 0.5x

The shark is the only symbol that pays for two of a kind, and five sharks on a line are worth 100 times the bet – the top line win in the game. The red octopus and the curled pink shrimp complete the symbol set.

The Pearl Wild and the Respin

The WILD is an open oyster shell with a glowing pearl. When it lands, it expands to cover its whole reel and the game respins with the wild column held in place. In our screenshot the pearl filled the fourth reel from top to bottom and the spin paid $30 – 1.5x the bet – from combinations that ran through it. SlotCatalog describes the feature as an expanding wild with a respin and sticky wilds, which matches what we saw.

The Scatter

The pink starfish marked SCATTER pays wherever it lands. Three starfish in our spin – on the second, third and fourth reels – paid $60, or 3x the bet, on their own.

Low Volatility in Numbers

The paytable explains the low volatility rating better than any label. The three letter symbols pay 0.5x for three of a kind and 5x for five, and they appear on almost every screen in our session, so small returns come often. At the other end, the best line win – five sharks – is 100x, and the scatter pays a straight cash prize. There is no progressive feature, no growing multiplier and no long bonus round that could produce a sudden jump. The 2,600x maximum can only be reached by several strong line wins landing together with an expanded pearl wild, which is exactly the kind of result a low-volatility game makes rare.

The Gamble Game

Any win can be taken to a card gamble. With a $60 current win the screen offered two options:

  • Colour: guess red or black to double the win – $120
  • Suit: guess the suit to multiply it by four – $240

A Collect button takes the win at any time. The instruction under the panel reads: “Guess the colour or suit of the next card to multiply your win!”

The Bonus Buy

The Buy Bonus panel sells one thing: the pearl-wild Respin. At a $20 bet it costs $300 – 15x the stake. That is a low price by modern standards, and it matches the game’s low volatility: you are buying one guaranteed expanding wild and its respin, not a long bonus round. It is also the reason SlotCatalog lists a higher RTP for the buy (97.49%) than for normal play.

RTP With and Without the Buy

SlotCatalog gives two RTP figures: 96.29% for normal play and 97.49% when you buy the respin. The difference of 1.2 percentage points means that, over a long run, every $1,000 spent on bought respins returns about $12 more on average than the same amount spent on normal spins. The buy is therefore not only a shortcut to the feature but, on paper, the better-value way to play – at the cost of spending 15 bets at a time. As always, the game is offered in more than one RTP version, so the figure at your casino may differ.

The Controls

The bottom bar keeps everything in one line: the bet with plus and minus buttons, the current win, the balance, the spin button and a lightning button for fast play. After a win a small card icon appears next to the spin button – that is the entry to the gamble. The info pages, settings and history sit behind the menu icon in the bottom left corner.

What Our Spins Showed

We played at a $20 stake. Besides the $30 pearl respin and the $60 scatter win, a spread of J symbols paid $20, exactly the bet, and one spin with a shark and pufferfish combination paid $25.92. Wins of one to three times the stake were common, which is what the low volatility rating promises.

Graphics and Sound

The reels float in a blue lagoon framed by coral, sea fans and seaweed. The fish are drawn in a friendly cartoon style – a grinning shark, a pufferfish with big eyes, an anglerfish with its lantern – and the letters are coloured shells. It is a bright, relaxed look that suits a low-volatility game.

Who It Is For

Lucky Reefs is for players who want a simple, steady slot. Twenty lines, one expanding pearl wild, a scatter prize and a 15x buy make it easy to follow, and the gamble lets you raise the stakes on any win if you want more risk. The 2,600x ceiling is modest, but frequent small wins are the point here. All six casinos we checked carry it.
