Hi-Loaf Overview

Hi-Loaf is a step-multiplier guessing game from Caleta Gaming, released on 26 May 2025. Caleta also lists it under its Portuguese name, Pão com Manteiga – “bread and butter” – and the whole game is one question: will the toast land butter side up or butter side down?

The game shows an RTP of 93.7% in its own header, and SlotCatalog gives the same figure, a maximum win of 959x and bets from $0.10 to $300. The Portuguese listing rates the volatility as high. The figures below come from our own demo session at a bet of €100.

A Kitchen Floor and a Slice of Toast

The playing field is a tiled kitchen floor seen from above, with a single slice of buttered toast in the middle. Along the top runs the multiplier ladder, drawn as ten slices of bread that light up one by one as you guess correctly.

How a Round Works

You set the bet and press BET. Two buttons appear: BUTTER DOWN and BUTTER UP. Pick one, the toast flips through the air, and if it lands the way you called it, you move one step up the ladder. After every correct call you can keep going or press CASH OUT; a wrong call ends the round and takes the bet.

In our round we called BUTTER UP, the toast landed buttered side up, the first slice on the ladder turned green, and the cash-out button offered €187.00 on the €100 bet – the first step of 1.87x.

Before the first flip there is also a CANCEL button, so a bet can be withdrawn until you make your first call. In our session the €100 was taken from the balance as soon as we called, and the balance went from €10,000 to €9,900 while the cash-out offer stood at €187.

The Ladder

The ten steps are x1.87, x3.75, x7.50, x14.9, x29.9, x59.9, x119, x239, x479 and x959. Each one roughly doubles the last, which fits a fifty-fifty call: 1.87x on an even chance returns 93.5% of the bet, close to the stated 93.7%.

At the €100 bet from our session, the third step is worth €750, the fifth €2,990 and the top of the ladder €95,900.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

Ten correct calls in a row take you to the top of the ladder and the maximum win of 959x. A 93.7% return is below the usual slot average, and each round is decided by a single fifty-fifty call after another, so a long run is rare.
