Deadly West Overview

Deadly West is a five-reel, three-row slot from Yggdrasil with 243 ways, a 94% RTP, a high volatility rating and a published ceiling of 50,000x – the largest number in any article we have written this month. It was released on 23 April 2025.

Zombies in a Western Town

The grid is framed in bones and lashed sticks, with a skull at each corner, and it stands in the main street of a ruined western town. A weathered sign reading Z TOWN hangs on the right, and a zombie in a cowboy hat shuffles along the left edge.

The symbols are the residents: a green-faced zombie in a waistcoat, a skull-headed gunslinger, a brain on a plate and card ranks from 10 to A, all drawn as framed portraits.

The background repays a second look. Behind the frame there is a saloon with a broken balcony, a wagon on its side, a hanging tree in silhouette at the top-left, and a dark line of figures shuffling along the bottom of the screen – the town is being overrun while you play.

The Paytable Is in Multiples

Yggdrasil deserves credit for this: the paytable states outright that paytable values are displayed as total bet multipliers, so there is no arithmetic to do. The figures are:

Wild: 10x for five, 5x for four, 2x for three. Green zombie: 7.5x, 3x, 1x. Skull gunslinger: 4x, 2.5x, 0.5x. Brain, A and K: 2x, 1x, 0.25x. Q, J and 10: 1x, 0.5x, 0.1x.

Now put that next to the ceiling. The best five-symbol line on this game is worth ten times your bet, and the published maximum is fifty thousand times it – a ratio of 5,000 to 1. Nothing in the line game contributes meaningfully to that number.

Three of a kind on the bottom three symbols returns a tenth of the stake. On a 243-ways game those hits are frequent, and they are losses wearing a win animation.

Winning positions are outlined in green neon against the sepia background, which on a 243-ways grid is the only practical way to see what paid. Everything not involved fades back.

What 243 Ways Looks Like

The win banner names the shape rather than a payline: every capture reads 1 WAY WIN, followed by the amount. So on this game a win is a single connected way, and the game tells you how many it found.

The recorded wins: €5.00 (1x), €10.00 (2x), €12.50 (2.5x), €37.50 (7.5x) and €50.00 (10x).

That last one is worth marking: €50.00 is 10x – the same figure the paytable gives for five wilds, and the best single result on the game. It arrived with two cowboy-zombie wilds helping a set of skull gunslingers across the grid. Reaching the paytable ceiling inside a nine-capture session tells you how little that ceiling is worth.

Two of the captures verify the paytable exactly, which is worth doing on any game that quotes multiples. A spin of five green zombies paid €37.50 – 7.5x, precisely the green zombie’s five-symbol figure. And a four-symbol zombie win paid €12.50, which is the 2.5x four-of-a-kind rung. The table is doing what it says.

A third capture is a useful reference point at the other end: five K symbols paid €10.00. Two times the bet for a full line of the second-lowest symbol across all five reels.

The Knife Wheel

The round is triggered by BONUS plates scattered across the grid – one capture has five of them at once – and what follows is the best-staged feature in this batch.

The reels vanish. You are in a blood-spattered saloon, a zombie standing to one side, and in front of you is a wooden wheel with a knife thrown into it. The wheel is divided into segments carrying numbers: the capture shows 15 and 20, with the blade stuck between them.

So the number of free spins is decided by a thrown knife rather than a spin counter, and the two visible segments suggest a round of fifteen to twenty spins.

The BONUS symbol itself is a plate with crossed knives and the word BONUS across it, and it lands in the lower half of the grid in the captures. They are read from anywhere rather than along a way.

The interface matches the restraint: the game name in a thin bar across the top, BALANCE, WIN and BET along the bottom, and the paytable screen adding only a sound toggle and an info key. The spin control sits off the captured area entirely.

Who Should Play It

Deadly West is for players who want a zombie-western cluster of jokes and a genuinely theatrical bonus trigger. The bone frame and Z TOWN sign are well drawn, the paytable in plain multiples is a model other studios should copy, and the knife wheel is memorable.

The reservations are serious. A 94% RTP, a line game whose best result is 10x, and low-symbol trios paying a tenth of the stake mean the base game is close to pure attrition. The 50,000x headline belongs to the free spins, and this session never saw them run.
