Coin Charge Overview

Coin Charge is a compact fruit slot from Platipus, released on 13 October 2023. Everything happens on a 3x3 grid with 5 fixed paylines, framed by neon pyramids and palm trees in a retro synthwave style. The published figures are an RTP of 95% (the game is offered in several RTP versions), low volatility and a maximum win of 3,314x the bet. Stakes run from 0.20 to 100 per spin.

The Symbols and the Wild

The reels carry the classic fruit-machine set: plums, cherries, apples, lemons, bells, golden horseshoes, red sevens and BAR. The special piece is the gold lightning-dollar symbol, which acts as the wild. Our first screenshot shows it at work: an apple, the wild and another apple across the middle of the grid paid FUN 200 on line 2 at a 50 stake – 4x the bet from a single line.

Three reels and five lines keep the base game simple. Wins come often but they are small; the real value of the game sits in the coin feature and its jackpots.

The Four Fixed Jackpots

Four jackpot plaques stand on the left of the grid, and their values move with the stake. We could read them at three different bets:

  • Bet 1: Grand 3,000 – Major 150 – Minor 50 – Mini 25
  • Bet 50: Grand 150,000 – Major 7,500 – Minor 2,500 – Mini 1,250
  • Bet 500: Grand 1,500,000 – Major 75,000 – Minor 25,000 – Mini 12,500

At every stake the ratios are identical, so the jackpots are fixed multipliers: Grand 3,000x, Major 150x, Minor 50x and Mini 25x. The Grand alone is about nine tenths of the game’s 3,314x ceiling.

How the Coin Feature Starts

Gold coins with cash values can land on the reels. In one of our spins at a 50 stake three of them filled the middle row – 100, 100 and 50, which is 2x, 2x and 1x the bet – and the game switched to the bonus. The start screen is simple: “3 RESPINS – START”.

The Respins Round

Once the feature starts, the fruit disappear and the grid turns into nine empty neon cells, with only the coins left in place. As in every hold-and-win game, each new coin that lands stays put and the respins count resets, while empty spins count down. Our screenshot from the round shows 1 respin left, coins worth 250 and 100 on the board and a running total of 2,400.00 – 48x the 50 stake before the round had even finished.

With only nine cells, the grid fills much faster than on the usual 15-position hold-and-win boards, which is where the jackpot plaques come in.

Buying the Feature

A Feature Buy button sits on the right. At a bet of 1 the dialog reads “Buy Respins Feature – FUN35”, so the respins round costs 35x the stake. For a low-volatility game that is a moderate price, and it lets you go straight to the coins without waiting for three of them to land naturally.

Is the Buy Worth It?

The jackpot ladder puts the 35x price in perspective. The Mini jackpot alone (25x) does not cover it, the Minor (50x) already does, and the Major (150x) returns more than four times the price. Coin values on top of that add to the total, as the 48x running total in our round showed. On the other hand, the Grand at 3,000x needs a full or nearly full grid, and with low volatility most rounds will end well below that.

The Stakes in Practice

Because the jackpots are fixed multipliers, the betting range decides what they are worth in cash:

  • Minimum bet 0.20: Mini 5, Minor 10, Major 30, Grand 600
  • Bet 1: Mini 25, Minor 50, Major 150, Grand 3,000
  • Maximum bet 100: Mini 2,500, Minor 5,000, Major 15,000, Grand 300,000

The buy price follows the same logic: 7 at the minimum stake, 35 at a stake of 1 and 3,500 at the maximum.

What Our Spins Showed

The screenshots give a fair picture of the base game. Apart from the 200 line win, a spin with bells, horseshoes and a seven paid FUN 800 across several lines at a 50 stake – 16x. At a 500 stake a row of cherries, apples and the wild returned FUN 2,500, which is 5x. Nothing spectacular on its own, but steady – exactly what the low volatility promises.

Graphics and Sound

Coin Charge borrows the look of an 80s arcade: a glowing purple grid, pink and blue neon lines, a sunset over palm trees and a chrome COIN CHARGE logo with a lightning bolt. The fruit are drawn large and glossy, so the small grid is easy to read on a phone. The jackpot plaques use the same neon frames, which keeps the whole screen consistent.

More From Platipus

Platipus mixes classic fruit games with feature-heavy titles. Miss Gypsy is a very different game from the same studio, with scatter pays and a multiplier-driven free spins round.

Who It Is For

Coin Charge is for players who like a short, readable slot with a clear goal. Five lines and low volatility keep the balance steady, the four jackpots are fixed multiples of your stake, and the respins round can be bought for 35x whenever you want to skip the wait. The ceiling is modest at 3,314x, but the Grand at 3,000x makes it clear where it comes from.
