9 Lions Hold the Jackpot Overview

9 Lions Hold the Jackpot is a bonus-driven slot from Wazdan, released under the VoltEnt brand on 10 July 2024. It plays on a small 3x3 grid framed by red lacquered pillars, with misty mountains and pagodas in the background. The published figures are an RTP of 96.14%, adjustable volatility and a maximum win of 750x the bet.

The game works differently from most slots: SlotCatalog notes that there are no line wins in the base game. Every payout comes from one of two features – the Hold the Jackpot bonus or the 9 Lions pick bonus. The numbers below come from our own demo session, played at a bet of 5,000 FUN.

A Grid of Coins and Lions

The nine positions are filled with red tiles carrying a faint lion emblem, and the base game is about what lands on top of them: gold coins with cash values, golden lion heads and special bonus symbols. In our captures the coins showed values such as 5,000 and 10,000 FUN.

To the right of the grid sits a smaller 3x3 lion panel under the game logo, and below it the four jackpot plaques. The panel is the key to the second feature, because each golden lion that lands on the grid is stored there.

In one base-game spin a golden lion head landed in the top-left corner next to a 5,000 coin, with a 10,000 coin below in the middle row. Nothing was paid for the combination itself – in this game the coins and lions matter only as the building blocks of the two features.

The Four Fixed Jackpots

At a 5,000 FUN bet the plaques read MINI 50,000, MINOR 100,000, MAJOR 250,000 and GRAND 3,750,000 FUN – that is 10x, 20x, 50x and 750x the bet. The Grand is exactly the published maximum win, so the top jackpot is the ceiling of the game.

The jackpots are fixed rather than progressive: they scale with the bet but do not grow from spin to spin.

The 9 Lions Pick Bonus

When all nine places in the lion panel are filled, the 9 Lions Bonus starts. The grid turns into nine golden lions, each marked CLICK ME, and the player picks one.

In our session the pick revealed the MAJOR jackpot, and the game announced 250,000 FUN – 50x the bet. The other lions opened to show what they had held: coins, MINI and MINOR plaques and a jackpot emblem. SlotCatalog describes this as a single-pick feature with prizes up to the Grand.

The Hold the Jackpot Bonus

The second feature is a classic hold-and-respin round. Bonus symbols lock in place, the counter starts at 3 respins, and in the usual way a new symbol resets it. The round ends when the counter runs out or the grid is full.

The game’s rules page lists the special symbols in this round:

  • the Collector accumulates the values of all Cash and Cash Infinity symbols and multiplies them by a random 1x to 20x;
  • Cash Infinity symbols stay on the grid until the bonus ends;
  • the Mystery symbol can turn into any other bonus symbol except Cash Infinity;
  • the Jackpot Mystery can only turn into a MINI, MINOR or MAJOR.

Mystery and Jackpot Mystery symbols open one by one at the end of the round.

The Collector is the symbol that can lift a round well beyond the coin values on the grid: it gathers every cash value in play and then applies its own random multiplier, up to 20x. The Jackpot Mystery, on the other hand, is the safer bonus symbol, because it can only open into one of the three lower jackpots and never into a plain coin.

What Our Hold the Jackpot Round Did

Our round filled six of the nine positions: a MINI in the top corner, a 5,000 coin and four Mystery pagodas. At the end the pagodas opened into coins worth 10,000, 15,000, 10,000 and 5,000.

The coins added up to 45,000 FUN and the MINI to another 50,000, and the total win counter finished at 95,000 FUN – 19x the 5,000 bet. The balance stood at 115,000 FUN during the pick bonus and at 285,000 FUN by the time of this round, after the MAJOR had been paid.

Chance Level and Other Options

The Chance Level panel on the left offers OFF, x2, x4 and x6. It raises the stake in exchange for more frequent bonus features – with x4 selected, our 5,000 bet became a total bet of 20,000 FUN. The jackpot plaques stayed at the values for the 5,000 base bet.

That makes the Chance Level a trade-off worth calculating. At x4 each spin costs four times the base bet, while the jackpots are still paid on the base bet – so our 250,000 MAJOR was worth 50x the 5,000 base bet but only 12.5 spins at the 20,000 total bet. Higher settings buy more features, not bigger ones.

SlotCatalog also lists a Buy Feature, a gamble option and three volatility settings among the options, in line with Wazdan’s other Hold the Jackpot games.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

A 96.14% return is close to the market average. Because the base game has no line wins, the return comes entirely from the two features, and the 750x ceiling sits in the Grand jackpot. With the adjustable volatility and the Chance Level, you can choose how often the features come and how much each spin costs.

Our two features show the range of the game: the pick bonus paid 50x in one click, while the Hold the Jackpot round – six symbols and a MINI – returned 19x. The 750x Grand sits at the top of both features, so it stays a rare result.

Who Should Play It

9 Lions Hold the Jackpot suits players who enjoy hold-and-win rounds and fixed jackpots more than ordinary line play. The small grid is easy to follow, and the lion panel shows at a glance how close the pick bonus is.
