Trial of the Gods Overview

Trial of the Gods is an Egyptian video slot from Caleta Gaming, played on five reels and three rows with 20 fixed paylines. The published RTP is 97%, which is well above the industry average of around 96%. It was released on 25 September 2024, and bets run from €0.20 to €200 per spin.

Caleta does not publish a volatility rating or a maximum win for the game, and neither does SlotCatalog, so we leave both open here. All the numbers below were read from the demo at a €2 total bet, so every €2 in a win equals 1x the stake.

The controls are the standard Caleta set: balance, total bet and a win meter along the bottom, a LINES display fixed at 20, an instant-spin toggle beside the spin button, and a BUY FEATURE button on the left edge of the reels.

A Temple of Fire

The reels sit inside a dark stone temple, with flames licking up from the bottom corners of the screen and the gold Trial of the Gods logo carved above the grid. Every symbol is framed like a tablet, and winning positions light up in orange fire.

The premium symbols are the rulers and gods of Egypt: Cleopatra, a gold-masked pharaoh, Anubis, a crocodile-headed god and a cat that stands for Bastet. The low symbols are the card ranks A, K, Q and J, drawn in carved red and teal. Winged scarabs marked “BUY IN” are the feature symbols.

The Paytable

The rules screen prints the prizes in cash for the current bet. At €2, five Cleopatras pay €250 – that is 125x the stake – four pay €50 and three pay €5. The pharaoh follows with €100, €20 and €3.50, and Anubis with €50, €10 and €2.50.

The crocodile pays €35 for five and €7.50 for four, the cat €20 and €5, and the card ranks sit far below: five A symbols pay only €5, or 2.5x. The gap between Cleopatra and everything else is the most important thing to know about this machine.

Our session showed both ends of that scale. One base-game spin paid €9.00 (4.5x) from short lines of J and pharaoh symbols, while another lined up four Cleopatras for exactly €50.00 – 25x the bet, matching the paytable to the cent.

How the Lines Pay

Wins pay from left to right on the 20 fixed lines, and every symbol needs at least three of a kind on adjacent reels. Several lines can pay on the same spin: in our €9.00 capture, more than one line crossed the grid at once, each traced in orange from the first reel to its last matching symbol, and the win meter added them together.

Because the card ranks pay so little, most of the base game is spent waiting for the higher symbols to connect. A three-symbol line of Anubis or the pharaoh returns only 1.25x to 1.75x the bet, so it is the four- and five-symbol lines of the top two symbols that make a base-game session.

Three Scarab Meters

Two tall columns flank the reels, each holding a stack of small scarabs in green, purple and blue. As the session went on, more of them lit up – three green scarabs on the left and a purple one on the right in one capture. SlotCatalog lists a symbol collection feature for the game, and these columns appear to be it: the scarabs you land in the base game fill the meters.

The colours matter because they match the three free spins rounds in the buy menu. The game did not explain the exact link between the meters and the rounds in our captures, so treat that part as our reading of the screen.

The Free Spins

When the scarabs trigger the feature, a pink screen announces the prize. In one of our rounds it read: “You have won 12 Free Spins with a 3x Multiplier”.

During the free spins the temple turns blue. A counter of spins remaining burns in the left-hand brazier, and the current multiplier is shown on the right. The reels also carry X2 wild tablets that double any line they complete, so a single line can pass through two layers of multiplication.

One capture from our bought round shows two X2 tablets on the second and third reels at the same time, both inside winning lines of crocodiles and Cleopatras. A second capture a few spins later shows the same pattern, with two X2 tablets again sitting on those reels.

Buy Feature: Three Price Tags

The BUY FEATURE button on the left opens three options, one per scarab colour. At a €2 bet they cost:

  • Green free spins: €67.30 – 33.65x the bet
  • Purple free spins: €90.10 – 45.05x
  • Blue free spins: €1,523.30 – 761.65x

The blue round is in a different class. After you confirm, three blue scarabs drop onto the top row and the feature begins.

What the Blue Round Paid

We bought the blue round. It ran on a counter of 15 free spins with a x10 multiplier shown on the right. With 11 of the 15 spins still remaining the total stood at €520.00, and with 6 remaining it had jumped to €7,150.00, with X2 wilds landing in several of the winning lines.

When the round ended, the win meter read €7,640.00 and the balance had risen from €8,533.20 to €16,173.20. That is 3,820x the €2 bet, or about five times the price of the buy – one result, not an average, but it shows what the x10 multiplier and the X2 wilds can do together.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

A 97% RTP is generous for a modern slot. The flip side is a paytable that leans heavily on one symbol and a top buy that costs more than 760x the stake. The cheaper green and purple rounds are the sensible way to see the feature on a normal budget.

The spread between the three buy prices is also worth noting: the green round costs less than one twentieth of the blue one, so the menu covers everything from a modest gamble to a very expensive shot at the x10 round.

Who Should Play It

Trial of the Gods suits players who like classic Egyptian slots but want a modern bonus on top. The base game is simple to read, the scarab meters give each spin a little purpose, and the three buy options let you choose how much risk to take.
