Neon Craze OverviewNeon Craze is a synthwave-themed video slot from Mancala Gaming. It plays on a 4x4 grid with 256 ways to win, a fifth reel that stays locked in the base game, and cascading wins. The RTP is 95%, the volatility is rated high, and bets range from 0.20 to 100. It was released on 10 December 2024. The main idea is simple. Four reels do the work in the base game, while the fifth sits behind a padlock. In free spins it opens up and turns into a reel of wilds, and that is where the game's real potential lies. The figures below come from demo play in the demo's DEM currency, mostly at a 100 stake. Sunset Over a Neon CityThe look is pure 1980s retro: a purple and pink skyline glowing under a setting sun, palm trees silhouetted on both sides, and a white sports car parked in the bottom left corner. A woman in a yellow jacket with oversized sunglasses leans against the car, and the title sits above her in chrome letters. The symbols follow the same theme. The high-paying ones are the Let's Wild disco ball, the woman in sunglasses, an instant camera, a slice of pizza, a pair of headphones and neon shutter shades. The lower symbols are four card suits drawn as glowing neon outlines. On the right side of the grid is a tall panel with a padlock on top. This is the locked fifth reel. Next to it are the spin button, an autoplay button and a coin stack for the bet settings. The PaytableWith a 100 stake set, the paytable shows the following values for three, four and five of a kind: Wild 375.00 for five and 250.00 for four. The woman pays 250.00, 150.00 and 75.00. The camera pays 125.00, 75.00 and 50.00. The pizza pays 100.00, 60.00 and 40.00. The headphones pay 75.00, 50.00 and 30.00, and the shades pay 60.00, 40.00 and 20.00. All four card suits pay the same: 50.00, 25.00 and 10.00. So five wilds are worth 3.75x the stake on one way, and the best regular symbol pays 2.5x. These are modest numbers, but they are paid per way, and with 256 ways several combinations can land in the same spin. The top of the table is compressed. Five wilds pay only one and a half times as much as five of the woman, and the four card suits all pay exactly the same. In the base game, how many ways connect matters more than which symbol lands. The paytable also states that the total win is limited to DEM 518,234.00 due to operator requirements. At the 100 stake shown, that would be a cap of roughly 5,182x. Hyper PlayUnder the logo there is a switch labelled Hyper Play. When it is switched on, the stake rises: with a base bet of 100, the total bet shown in the footer became DEM 250.00, so Hyper Play costs 2.5 times the normal stake. Our screenshots do not show what the extra cost buys, so we will not guess. What they do show is the results: Hyper Play spins that paid 100.00, 200.00 and 300.00, and one capture with six wilds across the middle two reels together with a row of headphone symbols. Against the 250 total bet, those wins are worth 0.4x, 0.8x and 1.2x. That is a useful reminder that frequent wins do not always mean profitable ones when the stake has been multiplied. Cascades and Bonus SymbolsAccording to the game description, winning combinations disappear and new symbols drop into their place, so one spin can produce several wins in a row. Bonus symbols can also land and turn low-paying symbols into wilds, which helps these cascades continue. The wilds are the disco balls marked Let's Wild. They substitute for the regular symbols and also pay on their own, as the paytable shows. In our base-game captures they landed on the first four reels, one or two at a time, and in one spin six of them covered most of reels two and three. Free Spins and the Fifth ReelFree spins are triggered by the round Free Spins scatter symbols. In our capture four of them landed across the top two rows, two on reels one and four and two on reels two and three, and the game awarded 10 free spins. According to the description, three or four scatters are needed. During the free spins the fifth reel is open. In our screenshot it was completely covered by one tall, glowing Let's Wild symbol, turning the whole column into a wild. According to the game description, this wild stays locked in place for the rest of the round. This matters because adding a fifth reel changes the maths. A 4x4 grid has 256 ways; a fifth reel of the same height raises that to 1,024 ways, and a reel that is entirely wild completes every line that reaches it. In the same capture, three free spins were left and the winnings counter showed DEM 2,390.00, almost 24x the 100 stake. The counter keeps running for the whole round, so that figure was still growing. With the wild column locked on reel five, each remaining spin started with a complete fifth reel, and a counter in the top left corner showed how many spins were left. Buying the BonusThe Buy Bonus Feature window offers two options. The Silver version adds 5 free spins, and the Golden version adds 10. With a stake of 100 per spin, the Golden option cost 15,000.00, which is 150x the stake. The price of the Silver option was not shown in our screenshot. The stake can be changed directly in the buy window with plus and minus buttons, and the total cost updates automatically. Who Should Play ItNeon Craze is for players who enjoy a strong visual theme and do not mind high volatility. The base game pays small amounts, and the game's real value is in the free spins, when the fifth reel opens and becomes a wild. The drawbacks are the RTP of 95%, which is below average, and the high price of the bonus buy. Hyper Play produced frequent wins in our session, but at 2.5 times the stake only the 300.00 win actually covered the cost of the spin.
