Coastal Express: Cash Blast OverviewCoastal Express: Cash Blast is a NetGame slot on a five-by-three grid with 25 paylines, three jackpot tiers and a bonus round that does something genuinely unusual: it starts on a quarter of a board and unlocks the rest with keys. The setting is a 1930s railway platform, the conductor is the wild, and the whole game is built around a feature called Cash Blast that has more moving parts than the base game does. Theme and GraphicsThe reels stand on a station platform under an iron-and-glass roof, with a green steam locomotive at rest on the left and daylight coming in through the far end of the shed. The colour is warm and slightly faded, like a hand-tinted photograph. The three jackpot plates run across the top in red, blue and green – GRAND, MINOR and MINI – directly above the grid. There is no Major tier, which is worth noticing: the ladder has three rungs, not the usual four. The symbols are period travel: a man in a grey fedora, a woman in a red coat, a tan leather suitcase, a cup of coffee on a saucer, a gold locomotive, and card letters in coloured glass. The conductor in his peaked cap is the wild, and a pair of tickets marked BONUS is the scatter. All figures below come from demo play at a 15.00 EUR bet. The interface is unusually restrained for a modern slot. There is no buy button, no ante toggle, no volatility selector – a spin control, an autoplay button, a turbo arrow and the bet stepper, and nothing else. Everything the game does, it does on its own schedule. The PaytableThe paytable divides into HIGH SYMBOLS and LOW SYMBOLS, and the split is sharper than the labels suggest. The man in the fedora leads at 225.00 for five, 30.00 for four, 6.00 for three and 1.50 for two. Against the stake that is 15x, 2x, 0.4x and 0.1x. The woman follows at 120.00 / 24.00 / 3.00, and the suitcase and the coffee cup share a rung at 90.00 / 15.00 / 3.00 – both topping out at 6x. Then the low half. The ace pays 60.00 for five, and the king, queen, jack and ten all pay exactly 45.00 for five, 4.50 for four and 3.00 for three – identical to the unit across all three levels. Against the 15.00 bet those are 3x, 0.3x and 0.2x. Five of a kind on a full payline of the most common symbols returns three times the stake; four of a kind returns less than a third of it. Note also what the fedora’s two-symbol rung means. At 1.50 on a 15.00 bet it pays a tenth of the stake – a winning combination that costs you ninety percent of the money. It exists to keep the reels busy rather than to pay anybody. The Conductor WildThe wild is the conductor, and the demo shows why he matters. One capture catches him stacked across the middle of the grid – six WILD tiles filling most of reels two, three and four – for a win of 153.00, or 10.2 times the stake. That is the largest base-game result in the session, and it took the wild covering nearly half the board to produce it. Ordinary spins in the same session paid 12.00, 30.00 and 54.00 – 0.8x, 2x and 3.6x. So even a good base spin here is worth a few times the bet, and the only route past that is a wild block or the feature. He also arrives stacked rather than singly, which is what makes the difference. A single wild on a twenty-five-line grid helps a handful of paths; three reels of him sit on most of them at once, and that is the gap between a 2x spin and a 10x one. Free SpinsThe scatter awards ten free spins, and the announcement screen states the terms plainly: YOU WIN 10 FREE SPINS – A NUMBER OF [WILD] ARE INCREASED – ALL WINS ARE X2. Two modifications, both simple: more wilds on the reels, and every win doubled. No accumulating multiplier, no retrigger ladder, no collection meter – the round is the base game with the dial turned up. The demo follows one to spin eight of ten, where a board of suitcases with a wild above and below pays 60.00. Against the 15.00 stake that is four times the bet, which on the unmodified reels would have been two. Cash Blast: Four QuadrantsThe other feature is where the design earns its name, and it is worth describing carefully because the screenshots show it mid-construction. The round opens on a board divided into four quadrants, each a three-by-three grid. Only one of them is in play. The other three are covered in gold chains, and each carries the same diagram: a key, an arrow, and a padlock. So the round begins on nine positions and can grow to thirty-six. Landing keys unlocks the quadrants one at a time, and a running total sits in a gold disc at the top-left of the screen. The demo catches two moments in the same round. Early on, with three quadrants still chained, the disc reads 52.50 – three and a half times the stake. Later, with all four quadrants open and the board filled with striped shield symbols and gold sacks, it reads 5,040.00. That is 336 times the bet, and it is nearly a hundred-fold increase on the figure from earlier in the same round. The unlocking is not a cosmetic flourish – it is the entire value of the feature. A 1 2 3 respin counter sits beneath the board throughout, resetting as new symbols land, in the usual hold-and-win fashion. What makes the quadrant structure interesting is the information it gives you. On an ordinary hold-and-win round there is no way to tell a good board from a mediocre one until it finishes. Here you can see at a glance how much of the board is still chained – and therefore how much room the round has left to grow. Three JackpotsThe plates read Grand 45,000.00, Minor 375.00 and Mini 150.00. At the 15.00 bet those are 3,000x, 25x and 10x. The gap is extraordinary. Mini to Minor is a factor of two and a half; Minor to Grand is a factor of one hundred and twenty. There is nothing in between, because there is no Major tier to occupy the space. Read that against the demo’s Cash Blast round, which reached 336x on its own. The two lower jackpots are worth less than a good feature round; the Grand is worth nine of them. RTP, Volatility and Max WinThe RTP is 96.1%, right at the modern standard. Volatility is rated Medium-High and the maximum win is 5,000x the bet. Medium-High is a fair call given how the two halves balance. Twenty-five lines with a symbol that pays from two of a kind produce frequent results, and four identical low symbols make sure most of them are small – three times the stake at best, a fifth of it at worst. The Grand at 3,000x covers three fifths of the distance to the ceiling, which is a higher proportion than most jackpot slots manage. The remainder comes from a fully unlocked Cash Blast board, and the demo’s 5,040.00 shows what that looks like when the keys arrive. It is a well-constructed game. The quadrant mechanic gives the feature a visible sense of progress that most hold-and-win rounds lack, the free spins are honest about exactly what they change, and the period art direction is done with more care than the theme required.
