Coyote Canyon Overview

Coyote Canyon is a desert-themed video slot from Rival Gaming, released on 17 June 2024. It plays on 5 reels and 3 rows with 50 paylines, and its main feature is a howling coyote that turns into a Wild with a multiplier.

The Desert Setting

The reels sit in a frame of dry branches, with red rock mesas, tall saguaro cacti and a blue sky behind them. The logo at the top shows a coyote howling on a rock. The symbols are the animals and objects of the canyon: a hawk, a roadrunner, a bighorn ram, a badger, a gila monster lizard, a coral snake, a flowering cactus, a buffalo skull, a blue diamond and an old scroll with a knife.

When the free spins start, the scene changes to night. The sky turns dark blue, a full moon rises over the mesas and the cacti become silhouettes, which makes the bonus round easy to recognise at a glance.

The Paytable

The in-game paytable shows values for the current bet. At 25.00 the blue diamond pays 2,500 for five – 100x the bet – with 250 for four, 25 for three and 2.50 for two. The buffalo skull pays 250, 100 and 20, the hawk 250, 50 and 12.50, and the canyon sunset 175, 50 and 10.

Lower down, the scroll and knife pays 150, 40 and 7.50, the ram 100 for five, the badger 50, and the lizard 40. The coral snake and the cactus sit at the bottom of the table with 25, 5 and 2.50. With fifty lines on a small grid, most spins return a few of these line wins at once.

Fifty Lines

The info screen shows all 50 paylines as small coloured patterns, numbered from 1 to 50. With five reels and three rows, fifty lines cover nearly every sensible path across the grid, so a matching group often pays on more than one line at once. The bet is spread evenly over the lines – at 25.00, each line carries 0.50.

The values in the paytable move with the bet. At the minimum of $0.50, the same five diamonds would pay $50, and five snakes would pay $0.50, so the ratios stay the same at every stake: five diamonds are always 100x, and five snakes are always one times the bet.

The Coyote Wild

The coyote is the symbol that decides the size of a win. When it lands, it carries a multiplier badge, and in our base game that badge read x5. SlotCatalog describes it the same way: the coyote’s call can turn into a 5x Wild.

The screenshots confirm how it works. In one spin, a buffalo skull on the first reel connected with two x5 coyotes, and the game reported a line win of 100.00 – exactly the 20.00 for three skulls, multiplied by five. That spin paid 377.50 in total. Another spin with a single x5 coyote in the middle of the grid paid 462.50, or 18.5x the bet, across several lines.

Free Spins at Night

The bonus round in our session opened with a simple screen: “Congratulations, you won 15 free spins”. SlotCatalog calls it the Super Free Spins Bonus and says it features a 10x Wild, and the round we played showed exactly that.

On one free spin, five coral snakes lined up on the bottom row with a coyote marked x10 above them. The game reported a line win of 250.00 – the 25.00 for five snakes, multiplied by ten. After the first spin the counter showed 14 free spins left and a total win of 275.00, which is 11x the bet.

The night version of the reels keeps the same symbols, and the x10 coyote appears on the reels in the same way as its x5 base-game version. With the multiplier doubled, even the lowest symbols become worthwhile: our five snakes, normally worth one times the bet, paid ten times the bet through the x10 coyote.

The Petroglyph Bonus

A red sandstone totem marked BONUS appeared on the fifth reel during our free spins. It belongs to the second feature, which SlotCatalog calls the Petroglyph Puzzle Bonus Game. We did not see it played out, so we only mention it here as part of the feature list.

Bonus Buy

The Bonus Buy button on the left side of the reels opens a window with a spirit guide in a feathered headdress and two options: 15 Free Spins and the Petroglyphs Bonus Round. At our 25.00 bet the price shown was 975.00, which is 39x the bet.

The bet can be changed in the same window, and the price follows it. At the maximum bet, a single purchase is a large part of a typical balance, so it is worth setting a limit before using it.

What the Session Did

The balance moved between 2,535.50 and 1,615.50 during the captures, and stood at 1,890.50 early in the free spins. The smaller base-game wins, such as 87.50 from a spin with a x5 coyote, came from several short line wins adding up.
