Calico Jack Is Wild

Our screenshots show that the Calico Jack symbol also works as a wild. In one spin, Jack on the third reel completed a line with two long-haired pirates for €400 – exactly the value of three of them. In the best spin of our session, two Jacks and two long-haired pirates formed a line of four on the top rows, and the win was €2,000 – the four-of-a-kind value for that pirate.

Even short lines count: a Jack next to a single pirate on the second line paid €40, the two-of-a-kind value of the pirate. Because he pays more than any symbol he replaces, a line of Jacks alone is the real prize.

Line Wins

The nine lines include straight rows and V-shaped zigzags across the grid, and the paying line is numbered on both sides of the reels. Four Ks along the middle row paid €320, exactly as the paytable promises. Three long-haired pirates on a V-shaped line – from the top of the first reel down to the bottom of the third – paid €400.

Anne Bonny Or Mary Read?

The gamble is the most original part of the game. Instead of a playing card, a “Wanted – Dead or Alive” poster sits between two portraits: Anne Bonny in a red circle and Mary Read in a black one. John Rackham, nicknamed Calico Jack for the colourful calico cloth he liked to wear, was an English pirate captain who sailed the Caribbean in the early 18th century. He is remembered above all for his crew: Anne Bonny and Mary Read, two of the very few women known to have served as pirates in that era. His flag – a skull above two crossed swords – became one of the classic images of the Golden Age of Piracy. The game builds its whole cast around these three figures, and the cover art shows Jack in the middle with the two women at his side.
