Funky Disco Overview

Funky Disco is a KA Gaming slot on a five-by-three grid running 30 paylines, and it takes the oldest symbol set in the business – sevens, BARs and fruit – and lights it in neon.

Its most unusual feature is buried in the paytable: three separate symbols pay from just two of a kind, and one of those two-symbol rungs returns less than a fifteenth of the stake.

Theme and Graphics

The background is a wall of purple and blue disco lights, out of focus and pulsing. The reel frame is a pink neon rectangle, with 30 LINES printed vertically in neon down both sides of the grid.

The symbols are drawn as backlit signs rather than solid tiles – a glittering gold mirrorball marked WILD, a white diamond, a blue 777, a purple 77, a single blue 7, and BAR plates in one, two and three tiers. Beneath them sit an apple, a lemon, cherries and a lime, all in the same translucent neon style.

Printing the line count down both edges of the frame is a small thing, but it is the one piece of information a thirty-line game most needs to volunteer. So four of the twelve symbols are interchangeable, and a complete five-symbol payline of any of them returns a third more than the money staked. Three of a kind returns a sixth of it.

Look at the top of the table alongside it and the spread is narrow for a slot. The very best combination in the game pays 16.7x; the fruit pays 1.33x. That is a twelve-fold range between the best and the worst five-of-a-kind, where many games run to several hundred.

The Two-Symbol Rungs

Three symbols pay from a pair, and the values are worth stating plainly.

Two wilds pay 50.00 – a third of the stake. Two diamonds pay 10.00. Two 777s pay 10.00.

Ten on a hundred and fifty is 6.7% of the bet. It is a winning combination in the sense that the game lights it up and adds it to the total, and it returns one fifteenth of what the spin cost.

On a thirty-line grid those pairs land constantly, which is precisely the point: they keep the counter moving. But a player reading the paytable should know that the bottom of it is decorative rather than remunerative.

It is not a criticism so much as a description of the format. A game that pays from pairs on thirty lines has to price them at almost nothing, or the arithmetic collapses. The alternative – not paying them at all – would make the same game feel considerably colder.

Thirty Lines in Practice

The interface names the paying line above the reels while the total sits in the middle of the screen, and the gap between the two numbers is instructive.

One capture reads LINE 11 WINS 10.00 while the spin total shows 235.00. Another reads LINE 3 WINS 10.00 against a total of 80.00. A third reads LINE 12 WINS 75.00 against a total of 75.00 – a single line that time.

So on this game the named line is rarely the whole story. Thirty paths across fifteen positions means several connect on most paying spins, and the headline figure is a sum of a great many small pieces.

The mirrorball is both the wild and the top-paying symbol, and the demo shows it landing in numbers – two side by side on the bottom row in one capture, three across the board in another, a pair stacked on the fifth reel in a third.

At 16.7x for five it is worth two and a half times the diamond, and twelve times what five of any fruit pays. On a game this flat, that single row carries most of the paytable’s weight.

Being both wild and top payer is the efficient arrangement on a flat table. A board with three of them is paying twice over: as a combination in its own right, and as a substitute completing whatever else is around it – which is exactly what the 8x spin in the demo looked like.
