Bau Cua Overview

Bau Cua is not a slot. It is KA Gaming’s version of the Vietnamese dice game bầu cua tôm cá – gourd, crab, shrimp, fish – played with three six-sided dice under a golden dome, and it has no reels, no paylines and no bonus round.

What it does have is a paytable short enough to check with a calculator, and the answer it gives is a better deal than the version played on a street corner.

Theme and Graphics

The table is deep red lacquer under a ring of soft light, with paper lanterns hanging at the top of the screen and a border of painted peonies around the paytable page. It is a Lunar New Year parlour rendered without irony.

The centrepiece is a polished gold dome that covers the dice between rolls and lifts to reveal them in a shallow bowl. Beneath it sits the betting board: six squares carrying a green gourd, a copper coin with a square hole, a green crab, a blue fish, a red rooster and a blue shrimp, each drawn as a flat bright icon.

Down the left runs a history panel showing the faces from previous rolls, three dice to a row. Chips of $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20 line the bottom of the screen, with CLEAR, REBET and REBET X2 buttons beside the roll control.

How a Round Works

You place chips on any of the six squares – as many squares as you like, in any amounts. The demo shows one round with $20 on the coin and $50 on the fish for a total bet of $70, and another with $20 on the gourd, $40 on the coin and $20 on the fish for a total of $80.

Then the dome lifts, three dice settle in the bowl, and every square matching a die pays out. The demo catches a completed round paying $40.00 and the history panel filling with results.

The Paytable

All six symbols pay identically, and the table gives three rows for each:

1x – 1:1. 2x – 2:1. 3x – 12:1.

In words: if your symbol shows on one of the three dice you are paid even money, on two dice you are paid two to one, and if all three dice come up with it you are paid twelve to one.

That last figure is the one worth noticing, because the traditional version of this game pays 3:1 for three of a kind. KA Gaming pays four times that.

What the Odds Actually Are

Three dice, six faces, and a bet on one symbol. The arithmetic is short enough to do in full.

Out of 216 equally likely combinations, your symbol misses entirely on 125 of them, appears once on 75, twice on 15, and three times on exactly 1.

Apply the paytable to those counts: you lose one unit 125 times, win one unit 75 times, win two units 15 times, and win twelve units once. That is −125 + 75 + 30 + 12 = −8 units across 216 rounds, or a house edge of 3.7%.

A 3.7% edge is a return of roughly 96.3% – squarely in line with the 96% quoted for the game, and better than most roulette wheels. Run the same sum with the traditional 3:1 triple payout and the edge is 7.87%, more than twice as expensive.

So the single change from 3:1 to 12:1 is what turns a folk game into a competitive casino product, and it is printed openly on the paytable.

Betting Several Squares

Because three dice are rolled and six symbols are available, covering more squares does not work the way it might seem. Spreading a stake across all six guarantees some return on every roll – three dice must land somewhere – but it also guarantees losing the stakes on the squares that miss.

The edge is the same however the chips are arranged. What changes is the shape of the result: one square is a lottery with a 12:1 top, six squares is a near-certain small return with almost no upside. The REBET X2 button makes it easy to double a spread that worked, which is worth being aware of before using it.

RTP, Volatility and Max Win

The RTP is 96% and volatility is rated Low. KA Gaming does not publish a maximum win multiplier, and for a game of this shape the paytable answers the question anyway: 12:1 is the most a single bet can return.

The Low rating is honest. With a 1:1 payout arriving on roughly a third of all rolls and no feature round to wait for, the balance moves in small steps in both directions. The demo bears it out – the balance drifts between 99,484 and 99,674 across the captures, on stakes of 70 and 80.
