Catch the Gold Hold and Win Overview

Catch the Gold Hold and Win is a luxury-holiday slot from BGaming, released on 13 August 2024. It plays on 5 reels and 3 rows with 25 paylines, and it mixes a Hold and Win coin feature with a choice of two free spins rounds.

BGaming lists an RTP of 94.98%, medium-high volatility and a maximum multiplier of x2,000, with a top prize of €250,000. The figures below come from our demo session, played mostly at a total bet of 7.50 FUN.

Aboard the Yacht

The reels float over a turquoise sea, with a white yacht at anchor, a sailing boat on the horizon and a villa on the hillside. The game invites you to “grab your suitcase and come aboard”, and the symbols match the trip: a luxury yacht, a bag of banknotes, a gold watch, a bucket of champagne and the card ranks A, K, Q and J.

The wild is the yacht’s captain, a woman in a white peaked cap, and she replaces every symbol except the Scatter and the Coins.

The Paytable

The paytable shows multiples of the line bet. The yacht pays 500, 250 and 25 for five, four and three, the money bag 400, 150 and 20, the watch 300, 100 and 15, and the champagne 200, 50 and 10. The card ranks pay 50 and 20 for five and four, with 10 or 5 for three.

At 7.50 FUN on 25 lines the line bet is 0.30, so five yachts are worth 150 FUN, or 20x the total bet. In the base game, a spin with several wilds and champagne buckets paid 73.50 FUN on a 12.00 bet.

Converted to the total bet, five money bags are worth 16x, five watches 12x, five champagne buckets 8x and five of a card rank 2x. The captain wild does most of the work in the base game, because the high symbols need a full line to pay well.

The Hold and Win Feature

6 or more Coins start the Hold and Win bonus, which gives 3 respins on a board that contains only Coins. Every Coin that lands sticks and resets the respins, and a random Collect symbol can add up the values of all Coins on the screen.

The three jackpots are won by filling horizontal lines: one full line for the Mini (x20), two for the Major (x100) and all three for the Mega (x1,000). At 7.50 FUN the plaques above the reels read 150, 750 and 7,500.

In our round the middle row filled completely, which lit up the MINI PRIZE. Eleven Coins worth between 7.50 and 52.50 added up to 202.50 FUN, and with the Mini the round came to about 352.50 FUN – 47x the bet.

Two Free Spins Parties

3 Scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 start the free spins, and you choose between two rounds. Big Catch gives 5 spins in which the same symbol fills a 3x3 block on reels 2 to 4. VIP Only gives 8 spins in which only mid and high symbols are in play. Both can be retriggered, and Hold and Win can still land inside the free spins.

We chose VIP Only. On the second of the eight spins, two captain wilds and a board of money bags and watches paid 130.50 FUN (17.4x), taking the round total to 142.50 FUN.

Buy Bonus and Chance

The Buy Bonus menu offers both features directly. At 7.50 FUN, Hold and Win costs 300 FUN (40x) and Free Spins 360 FUN (48x).

The Buy +250% Chance option works the other way: it slightly increases the bet and raises the odds of triggering both bonus games naturally, but it disables the Buy Bonus while it is active.

More About the Free Spins

BGaming adds two details to the free spins rounds. In Big Catch, filling the 3x3 block with Scatters awards more spins, and in VIP Only, landing 3 Scatters does the same. In our VIP round the Scatters and a 15.00 coin were already on the reels before the first spin, and the counter showed all eight spins still to play.

The two rounds suit different tastes. Big Catch is shorter but can cover the middle of the grid with one high symbol, while VIP Only is longer and simply removes the card ranks from the reels.

Paylines and Controls

The 25 lines are fixed. The rules screen draws them out one by one – the three straight rows, V shapes and zigzags across the five reels – and every line pays from the leftmost reel. The info screen also shows which line paid the last win.

The Buy Bonus and Buy +250% Chance panels sit on the left of the reels, where the Chance panel shows the extra cost for the Hold and Win chance and the Free Spins chance separately. The total bet, the win of the last spin and the running total are shown along the bottom, and the spin and autoplay buttons are on the right.

SlotCatalog lists stakes from 0.25 to 80 per spin. BGaming gives a hit rate of 2.22, which reads as one winning spin in every two or three.

How the Session Went

We started with a balance of 743.50 FUN at a 12.00 bet, where the 73.50 FUN line win was the best base-game result we captured (6.1x). After switching to 7.50 FUN and buying both bonus games, the balance dropped to around 350 FUN, then recovered to 685 FUN by the end of the session.

The Hold and Win purchase returned a little more than its price, while the free spins purchase depended on the later spins of the VIP round. That pattern is typical for a medium-high volatility game: the bought features can land either side of their cost.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

An RTP of 94.98% is below the market average of around 96%, and it is worth knowing before you play. BGaming gives the free spins rate as about 1 in 209 spins, so the bonus is not a frequent visitor without the Chance option.

The x2,000 maximum is only twice the Mega jackpot, so the very top results need a full Coin board on top of the coin values themselves, or an exceptional free spins round.

Who Should Play It

Catch the Gold suits players who like Hold and Win games with clear jackpots. The three plaques show their cash value at your stake, and the choice between two free spins rounds adds variety to a simple 25-line game.
